Typically imbecilic cuebid - in SPADES yet - at a high level, and the halfwit doesn't even have the "4+ diamonds" his own GIB definition "promises".

Stupid and dangerous lead - which "succeeds" only in removing declarer's club guess.

West does not ruff the club at trick four - ???

West does not (???, !!!) win his ace of hearts at trick five - ??? - !!!!!!!!!!!!!

And while we're at it, although this is much milder, I think the opening diamond lead should be the 3, not the 10.

I have commented in the past that GIB laughably stands for "Ginsberg's Intelligent Bridgeplayer" (sic!) and that the "I" in the acronym should definitely NOT be for "intelligent". I have suggested alternatives such as I.D.I.O.T.I.C., imbecilic, ignorant, illogical, inept, incompetent, inexcusable, irritating, and others.

Based on Johnny Halfwit's actions on this hand, I think we can add another word to the list : "inexplicable". The ONE word that should definitely never be used in describing the loathsome and laughable GIB/GIBBO nincompoops is "intelligent".

Phenomenally stupid lead followed by flamboyantly awful "defence". In other words, exactly what you would expect from GIBBO stars Johnny Halfwit and his elderly partner Donald J. Dumbo.

Another incredibly stupid lead, but at least after winning his diamond queen, Halfwit finds the spade shift.

So he and Dumbo beat me one trick in my 3NT contract, right?

Uh...no...wrong...because these two stone cold C.R.E.T.I.N.S. allow me to make it, and in the SILLIEST way possible.

Halfwit wins his diamond queen at trick four. That's the first defensive trick for the two simpletons.

At tricks five and six, Halfwit cashes his king and ace of spades. The two wartheads are now up to three defensive tricks so far.

At trick seven, Johnny correctly plays a third round of spades, opting to table the 4 from his remaining 94, not that his choice of spade matters here. What matters is that he's correctly continuing spades, one of the VERY few correct things he has ever done in his pathetic "career" as a "bridge player". So, bravo, Johnny.

Dummy's 7 is perforce played, since it is dummy's last spade. Donald J. Dumbo has the 108 doubleton remaining. He (stupidly as ALWAYS) plays the EIGHT, even though the ONLY spade left at this point that he has not already seen go by is the NINE. Yes, we can all see that West has the 9, and since declarer South earlier followed with the jack and queen, it is indeed wildly unlikely that he played THEM and KEPT the NINE, with the TEN still out...but it would be NO cost for Donald to play his TEN (rather than his EIGHT) just in CASE for some bizarre reason declarer had "unblocked" (ha, ha) from a holding of QJ9 tripleton.

I'm clearly nitpicking here, because it's a virtual certainty that Dumbo's play of the 8 will not cost...but it will NEVER gain, and it THEORETICALLY could lose (if South had done something crazy in the suit).

But I am NOT nitpicking HERE AND NOW, because...wait for it...When Dumbo wins his spade 8 at trick seven, that is the FOURTH trick for East-West. They have now BOOKED the contract and need only one more trick to beat it. Donald J. Dumbo is LOOKING AT that trick in his OWN hand. It is the HIGH ten of spades. He can cash it, IMMEDIATELY beating me one, and then he can play something else hoping that maybe his partnership can subsequently beat me even more.

But...old, feeble, addlepated Donald J. Dumbo...does NOT cash the SETTING trick. The ignorant, loudmouthed, self-centred braggart plays the three of hearts (!!!), allowing me to CLAIM, thereby making my "impossible" contract.

If any professional bridge teachers are looking to hire an assistant, I suggest that they do not interview Donnie to be their apprentice.

The result was okay - a shared top of 77.27 % for making 4S - but North's auction was typical for a GIBBO robot. In other words, it was illogical, inconsistent, and involved a crazy cuebid at a high level.

At his first call, North bids a perfectly normal 1S. At his second call, he bids a PASSABLE 2S. Clearly, he would be quite happy if the auction ENDED with him declaring 2S.

Over North's 2S call, East competes with 3H, and South (North's partner)...PASSES. The pass is very conservative, indeed bizarre. Why does South do this? Well, it's because South (yours truly) is well aware that his partner is a hopeless "bridge player" who ONLY bid 2S and who tends to be a big overbidder, and South fears North will head off on a solo flight to the stratosphere if he now hears the slightest encouragement. South figures that North is very likely to compete with 3S anyway, at which point South will deem it safe to (strangely) then raise to game. He also figures that if known overbidder North does NOT compete with 3S, it's probably not North-South's hand. South is well aware that he's taking a risk by passing over 3H, but he's also well aware, through bitter experience, that it does NOT pay to get a GIBBO robot partner excited!

But the fact is that as far as NORTH knows, South has no strength beyond what he has already shown via his earlier opening bid of 1D and his subsequent support double for North's spades.

West passes.

North bids. Fair enough. He knows he and South have a 5-3 spade fit, and his K1043 of diamonds rate to be good, considering that South opened 1D. It definitely looks right to compete with 3S.

So North decides to compete, which is wise. But he doesn't compete with 3S, which would be logical and consistent (given his EARLIER choice to bid ONLY 2S). He...goes...off on a solo flight to the stratosphere! (Remember that phrase from three paragraphs above? See why South feared it?) North bids...FOUR...HEARTS!!! He was quite happy one round earlier to have the auction END in a lowly 2S...but now...despite the fact that his partner was silent over the enemy 3H, thereby showing no additional strength, North now not only goes to the FOUR level over the enemy's THREE hearts, but he does so with a...CUEBID (!) of 4H, which SURELY must be STRONGER than a "mere" jump to 4S would be!

Regardless of result - whether he ends up making ZERO tricks or THIRTEEN tricks, how the HELL does it make sense, how the HELL does it demonstrate ANY logic or consistency...to initially be happy to end the auction in 2S and then later CUEBID (!), FORCE TO GAME, and effectively INVITE A SLAM...when partner has shown NOTHING more than he initially did?

If North's earlier 2S bid was good, then there is NO justification for now committing to at LEAST FOUR spades! Conversely, if his 4H cuebid (!) is now a good bid, then SURELY his earlier mere 2S call could NOT have been. It is impossible for BOTH the 2S call AND the 4H call to be correct. At least ONE of them (take your pick on which) MUST be wrong. If his 4H (or even a less strong 4S) is now correct, then instead of his easrlier 2S, he should have bid a game try of 3D.

As usual, North gained nothing by his inconsistent, illogical auction, because had he bid a normal 3S rather than his bizarre 4H, South (having earlier bizarrely underbid himself by passing 3H) would now have raised 3S to 4S anyway. The "excuse", debatable though it may have been, for the timorous pass of 3H was already made above, so South would now feel justified in raising to game...and if South had NOT underbid earlier, Lord only KNOWS what North would have done over 3S by South, given that he (North) CUEBID (!) 4H...EVEN after South PASSED!

BTW, the 4S contract is certainly a decent one, but looking only at the NS hands, it's hardly a claimer. In fact, it was played 10 times in 4S. It made six of those times, but went down four of those times. Twice it went down one. Once it went down two, and once it went down three.

Looking only at the NS hands, you would want to be in the NORMAL contract of 4S. This hand was played on BBO, though, so it was no surprise at all to see the foul spade break of 5-1.

But the point of this post is the truly bizarre GIB definition of 3S, which states that it is "forcing". I might have expected to read that in a bridge book from the 1950s (!!!), but is there anyone since then who does not play this as invitational?

I've often criticized the pathetic GIBBO system for being hopeless and antiquated. This definition is just ONE example of that. GIB/GIBBO reeks.

This board was played 20 times. Due to the very favourable layout for EW (ace of spades onside, stiff king of diamonds onside, queen of clubs onside), they can always make 12 tricks in diamonds. We were lucky when our EW opponents bid 5D and made only 11 tricks, so we shared a top with one other NS pair who had the same result.

Two other EW pairs bid 5D but made 12 tricks, and another EW pair bid 5D and made all 13!

Nine East-Wests bid 3NT, making 10 tricks twice, 11 tricks six times, and 12 tricks once.

Two East-West pairs defended 4H and collected 500 for beating it five.

One East-West pair defended 4S doubled and collected 1400 for beating it five.

Three other East-West pairs doubled 4S and beat it six, for +1700.

All amusing, but now let's do some GIB bashing. To be specific, let's bash its definitions, its bidding, and its declarer play...because they are ALL exposed in this hand.

The typically pathetic GIB definition of 2H is "2+ hearts". Okay, Mr. GIB, thank you SO much for that SUPER valuable information. I hope you didn't have to waste too much of your precious time writing it.

GIBBO still has no idea how to bid two-suiters. East opens 1D. Fine. He later bids three diamonds. NOT fine! Why not a much more descriptive three CLUBS?

Against East's 5D, South leads the king of hearts, so the GIBBO "declarer" plays dummy's ace and takes a pitch. Fine...except that the M.O.R.O.N. pitches a CLUB (!) from his FIVE-card (!) suit, where his partnership has ALL the key clubs except the queen...RATHER than a SPADE from J8 doubleton (!), where he has at LEAST one GUARANTEED loser and MIGHT have TWO if he later has to guess the suit (since he's missing the ace AND the queen).

This typically braindead play did not cost, because on the layout he could NOT go wrong. Once again, as is SO often the case with these inept bozos, it was only LUCK that saved the dolt from his massive stupidity. Later the twit got the CLUBS wrong, despite the fact that South had shown at least TEN cards in the majors and had also shown one diamond.

These GIBBO pieces of trash are a LOT better at declaring than at ANYTHING else related to bridge, but they are not EVEN good at declaring!

GIB/GIBBO stinks. GIB/GIBBO is an embarrassment to the game of bridge. GIB/GIBBO sucks pumice. GIB/GIBBO rots.

At trick four, East plays a spade. This is the second time a spade has been played on this hand. The first time was when DECLARER played the suit at trick two and East won his ace. Now - TYPICALLY - the hopeless GIBBO rube thinks that the best thing he can POSSIBLY do is to continue the suit that DECLARER played.

I.D.I.O.T.!

West wins the trick with his king, cashes his club queen to...set up declarer's 10 (!), and then...now that these two GIBBO boneheads have managed to establish ALL of declarer's remaining black cards as winners...plays ANOTHER spade.

Then at trick 9, West POPS his diamond ace, just to make CERTAIN that declarer CANNOT misguess the suit.

You know, I'm beginning to think that maybe...just maybe...the GIBBO robots have NEVER read a Hugh Kelsey book about how to DEFEND!

Stupid 2H bid by West. MUCH STUPIDER 4H bid by East. Are these GIBBO drokes tragic, laughable, or both? I vote for BOTH. They're pathetic but they're also uproariously funny.

If I want a good chuckle, I no longer have to watch a Seinfeld or Curb Your Enthusiasm DVD. All I have to do is look at just about ANY hand with GIBBO robots in it.

Trick two: West wins his club king.

Trick three: True to form, the ignorant fleabrain IMMEDIATELY returns a CLUB, the SAME suit DECLARER had just led at trick two.

I think the GIBBO robots use a shampoo called "Stupidity". They consistently rinse and repeat! They are perfect examples of Artificial...Ignorance.

East succeeds in EARNING yet another of those zeroes that he obviously LOVES to add to his world-class collection of total failures.

If the M.O.R.O.N. wants to compete, why doesn't he correctly double 1NT instead of overcalling 2C?

Answer: Because he's a GIBBO robot, so he knows almost NOTHING about bridge.

Superstooge in the West cashes the club ace at trick three. Declarer now takes ALL the remaining tricks, despite the typical BBO breaks in ALL FOUR suits:

Spades: 6-1

Hearts: 5-1

Diamonds: 5-1

Clubs: 5-2.

The GIBBO lunatic in the West decides that he MUST bid four...HEARTS...and is probably TERRIFIED that he might be missing a slam, considering the truly FABULOUS dummy that hi is tabling for...uh...HEARTS.

Do these clowns have any idea how hopeless they are? (Yes, I do know they're robots.)

I'm currently playing a game with three GIBBO robots.

It feels like they are getting even worse.

They probably are not, mind you, because they are what they are, and that will likely NEVER change. What they are is stupid, hopeless, and disgusting...but they are probably NOT getting worse. I don't think they will ever get worse or better. They will just stay as they are: stupendously pathetic and clueless "bridge players" - the most repulsive and nauseating that ever have existed or ever will exist.

I think the reason that it OFTEN seems like they are getting worse (but in reality probably aren't) is that each and every day they manage to come up with new, HIGHLY creative ways of...being the worst "bridge players" ever, while committing more truly boneheaded errors than a cockroach would.

GIB/GIBBO is a JOKE.

Although it didn't matter, it still seems strange for East to cash a second diamond before playing a high spade.

You know, I think the GIBBO "defenders" just MIGHT have done a little better. Check out the HEART story. Maybe, just maybe...West didn't pick the BEST time to withhold his ace!

Also check out post # 2880, where they botched the SPADE suit in a sort of similar way. With these hopeless dweebs, butchering the defence isn't a bug - it's a FEATURE! GIB/GIBBO rots!

The GIBBO genius in the West typically, stupidly, and cravenly pops his diamond king at trick two. THEN he IMMEDIATELY plays...another diamond. Also typical. Also stupid.

Shades of post # 2878! Here, the GIBBO monstrosities don't exactly SHINE in the spade suit! The hopeless simpletons can take FOUR spades on the fly, and I can't take ANY.

But against THESE mouth-breathers, I...WIN (!) the opening SPADE (!) lead, and Frick and Frack take ONLY TWO spades...at tricks 12 and 13.

As I've previously said, we don't need Jerry Seinfeld or Larry David to supply our laughs - not when we have Frick, Frack, Johnny Halfwit, Donald J. Dumbo, Sylvester Balboa, and all the other GIBBO imbeciles to get us chuckling!
