My contempt for the GIB definitions grows each time I play.

Let's just say the GIBBO robots could have done better on "defence", but in fairness it's possible that they were attempting to add to their mammoth collection of lifetime zeroes. If that was their intention, then they succeeded admirably.

Ludicrous lead by West of jack of spades from J3 doubleton. But it later gets much, much worse, because at trick nine when East cashes the diamond king, West, with AQ6 at that point plays...the...QUEEN! East continues with the 8 of diamonds and declarer South plays his jack from his remaining J10 doubleton. West wins his ace...and fires back his carefully guarded (ha, ha!) SIX of diamonds, allowing declarer to win his 10! East- West had four TOP diamond tricks and managed to take only two, while declarer, with J105 in his hand opposite 43 doubleton in dummy, lost only two diamond tricks and actually WON one diamond trick.

But by all means, dear GIBBO apologists, please tell me again about how the GIBBO robots are "better than most human players".

Fortunately, I took 8 tricks to score 120 for 100 % on the board. Obviously the East-West GIBBO robots could have done much better, but that's normal for them, and I wouldn't even have posted this hand if that was all there was to it.

The real story is North's INSANE 2NT call, coupled with the always ridiculous GIB definition of 2NT in this sequence: "Invitational to 3NT game; 8 HCP; 9- total points; stop in hearts; stop in spades".

"Invitational to 3NT game". Yes, GIB, we KNOW that. You do NOT have to mention it! But more importantly, and without even looking at ANY of the four hands, how on Earth and why on Earth, would North - who earlier PASSED his partner's 1NT opening bid, in an UNINTERRUPTED auction up to that point - NOW...suddenly...AFTER the opponents have shown some values (!)...NOW decide that he wants to invite game? It makes absolutely no sense and the GIB definition is completely wrong! Depending on partnership agreements, 2NT SHOULD either be competing for the partial in NT...OR should be takeout for the minors. We'd be better off with no definitions at all than with garbage like THIS GIB definition.

"8 HCP". North has...SIX!

"9- total points". Pulled out of THIN AIR for no reason whatsoever, and what do "total" points have to do with anything anyway - since the bid is in no trump?

"Stop in hearts". The "stop" North has is 98 doubleton!

"Stop in spades". His "stop" is 1087!

A total JOKE from start to finish - courtesy of GIB and GIBBO!

East pops the spade (trump) king at trick three, just to make CERTAIN that declarer CANNOT misguess. And what was his REASON for the silly pop? He was in a huge RUSH to play...another SPADE, the same suit DECLKARER was playing. Hopeless, as usual.

Declarer South wins his heart king at trick one and plays a DIAMOND at trick two to dummy's ace. Then at trick three he calls for dummy's 10 of DIAMONDS and slides it to West's king.

West is now on lead at trick four. What does he play? Well, he's a GIBBO robot, so of COURSE he plays...another DIAMOND!

94.74 % on the board, so I'm not complaining, but WHY did North not open his clearcut opening bid (!) in second seat (non-vul yet!) and then having ALREADY grossly underbid, why did he then bid ONLY a non-forcing (!) 1NT in response to South's 1S opening?

These GIBBO robots never cease to amaze - and NOT in a GOOD way!

Trick five: It looks like the GIBBO declarer has not yet read the chapter about finesses.

The GIBBO robot sitting East decides he MUST pop his king of hearts - thereby allowing declarer to make an overtrick.

We scored 100 % on this board anyway, so I'm not complaining...but I'm also NOT impressed by North's play of the spade FIVE at trick one. The GIBBO robots supposedly play standard signals, but I think this hand shows that any "signals" they happen to make are probably totally by accident, since they foolishly seem to treat all spot cards as equals. This is one of the numerous reasons that the GIBBO robots are such inglorious "defenders".

West makes one of the favourite leads of the GIBBO robots, which is usually a stupid lead (as it is here): his stiff trump. Then at trick two, TERRIFIED that he'll NEVER score his heart king if he doesn't take it IMMEDIATELY, he foolishly pops it - only to play another heart at trick three, because they foolishly LOVE to return declarer's suit. East, another "genius", wins his heart ace at trick four. These two intellectual wizards have by now allowed declarer to make all his remaining hearts good...but their wizardry is not yet over, because...

East decides to shift to a diamond. Does he shift to the normal 10 from 109 doubleton? Sorry for the silly, easy question. Of COURSE he doesn't, because HE'S a GIBBO robot, so HE shifts to the nine (!) from 109 doubleton. Declarer, perforce, plays his stiff king, which West wins with his ace. West understandably ( thanks to his "partner's" imbecilic play of the diamond NINE) pictures East, not South, with the singleton, so he attempts to cash his diamond queen. South ruffs and dummy's now-high jack provides a parking place for South's losing club, so declarer claims.

EW have succeeded - yet again - in adding yet another zero to their fabulously impressive lifetime collection of absolute bottoms. As usual, they fully "earned" it through their laughably bad play.

These rejects still haven't learned that it's usually poor strategy to lead the ENEMY suits, so West stupidly leads the ace of diamonds (the suit declarer opened) and continues with a second diamond. At what point will the GIBBO robots realize how totally incompetent they are at bridge, and switch to chess, ping pong, opera, sewing, bowling, or ANYTHING where they might have even a tiny bit of talent?

Nice diamond stopper for your 1NT bid, Mr. East, in the suit in which your LHO OVERCALLED.

Or, uhh...maybe NOT. (And yes, I'm aware that in the modern world many experts do recommend a 1NT bid in this type of situation...but it did not work out well here for the GIBBO robot.)

The story here is the utterly ridiculous GIB definition of South's double: "3+ diamonds; 11-21 HCP; 12-22 total points". Pure garbage, as the GIB definitions so often are.

To begin with, it is exactly the same description, word for word, as the definition for South's earlier 1D opening bid - with the only exception being that the totally unnecessary, tremendously annoying, and insultingly offensive first three words ("Minor suit opening") are not present here - but of course they should not EVER have been present in the repulsive definition of 1D either. Anyway, NO new information appeared in the completely useless definition of the double. Is it reopening for takeout? Is it penalty? Does it show "cards", and if so, what is the range? Does it have any lead directional meaning? Who KNOWS (?) because the piece of trash tells us NOTHING.

AND...would anyone actually open 1D...and after hearing LHO overcall 1NT and partner pass...now DOUBLE with as few as eleven (!) HCP? Given the definition, GIB apparently recommends such an INSANE action.

And what is North to do with many possible hands that he might hold after South doubles and West passes...considering that South COULD have as few as 11 HCP...OR...COULD have as many as twenty-one?!

BTW, note that GIB has assigned a value of "12-22 total points" for absolutely NO reason. To begin with, GIB has just used the totally unscientific and completely random and meaningless "system" it usually uses for "total" points - arbitrarily adding one point to both the lower and upper limits of the HCP, so that here, for example, 11 HCP magically become 12 "total" points at the bottom end and 21 HCP magically become 22 "total" points at the top end. It's like throwing darts at a board...BLINDFOLDED.

And why are "total" points even mentioned on this auction, since NS have identified no fit and the auction is currently in no trump by the opponents?

The GIBBO robots are the worst "bridge players" I have ever seen, but I do have sympathy for them because it would be extremely difficult for anyone to play good bridge when hampered by such a hopeless, antiquated, illogical system and such useless GIB definitions.

Typically imbecilic lead by West: his stiff jack of spades (trump!). These chowderheads add another complete zero to their massive and constantly growing lifetime collection. Not surprising that they accumulate SO many bottoms, given that:

They are handcuffed by an antiquated, illogical, just plain LOUSY system.
They are constrained by the pathetic GIB definitions.
Their bidding is abysmal.
They consistently make ludicrous leads - although to be fair, bad as their leads are (and they are really, REALLY bad!), they are at least better than the even worse ones made by their hideous GIB predecessors.
They are hopeless "defenders" because not only do they lack logic, but they also treat spot cards interchangeably, so that they they either don't signal or their signals are untrustworthy and often ignored.
Even declarer play, the best part of their game, is not particularly good.

In short, they reek.

East leads a diamond. Why? Because he's a GIBBO robot and they LOVE to lead the suits their OPPONENTS bid. Later, at trick three, he cashes his heart ace, immediately establishing two heart winners for the enemy, and then ignores his partner's presumed signal (?) of the 7 to go back to diamonds. Given that he went back to diamonds despite the "signal" (?), then why did he bother cashing the heart in the first place?

West ruffs (!) the third diamond. WHY, pray tell? He then cashes his club ace, but despite EAST'S presumed signal (?) of the 7, he then goes back to hearts. Are these clowns actually signaling or are ALL their plays just random? And if they ARE signaling, then why did they BOTH ignore the signals?

East wins his club queen at trick two. At trick three, he plays - of COURSE - another club - because the GIBBO robots strongly believe in returning DECLARER'S suit. When that holds, he - of COURSE - continues clubs.

Declarer wins the third club and leads a heart towards dummy North's J85 of hearts. West, being a typically clueless (and in this case cowardly) GIBBO robot, stupidly pops his heart king, thereby setting the stage for declarer to score TWO heart tricks. West then cashes his spade king, establishing North's queen as a winner, and then - of COURSE - plays a fourth round of clubs. It's now child's play for South to take 9 tricks in all for a score of 96.4 % - thanks largely to the witless and clueless GIBBO "defenders".

Why, oh why, is North bidding 2S with his dogmeat? Luckily, all the other human Souths also had a GIBBO robot as their "partner" so minus 500 scored a surprisingly decent 57.1 %...but that doesn't change the fact that North's bid was ridiculous.

Why is East cashing his club ace at trick three? Because he's a...GIBBO robot!
