Question: Why is the stinking piece of trash in the North JUMPING to FOUR hearts on his pile of cheese?

Answer: Because he's not just ANY stinking piece of trash, he's a GIBBO stinking piece of trash - the worst and most clueless of all.

Why is the GIBBO jerk in the East doubling 6C with his 75 doubleton? Why is the GIB definition of the double so compellingly useless?

Don't ask ME, because if it ever gets to the point where I actually start to "think" like a stinking piece of trash GIBBO robot, I'll immediately give up bridge forever - just like these terminally clueless GIBBO dolts should have done ages ago.

There is a incredibly simple solution: stop playing with it! No one is forcing you to log on and play with a robot. Either adapt, stop complaining or go find a table with human players.

The GIBBO robots regularly BURY their "partners" by grossly overbidding, yet here the oblivious, cowardly droke in the North fails to appreciate the value of his hand - opposite a partner who ALL BY HIMSELF bid 3D and then 4C at unfavourable vulnerability opposite a heretofore SILENT North. I've seen INCHWPRMS with more intelligence than GIBBO robots. We scored 71.4 % on the board, but North was an I.D.I.O.T....like ALL GIBBO robots ALWAYS are.

I see that in post # 2183 (two positions above this one) Jillybean has made a comment that she also made almost verbatim in another interesting thread. Rather than repeat my response to her from that thread, I will simply provide a link here to the other one, and let what I stated there serve as the response here also.

Some more ludicrous definitions in a ludicrous GIBBO system, followed by one of the stupidest bids ever:

Over North's 2C, 2NT by South would show "11-14 HCP", which is fine, but 3NT would show "13-20 HCP", which is a ridiculously broad range of EIGHT points. It's also redundant, contradictory, and inconsistent, because TWO NT (as previously indicated) shows 11-14, so why are 13 and 14 also included for 3NT? And if he had 15-17, wouldn't he have opened 1NT? And with 20, wouldn't he have opened 2NT? So instead of the mindless hogwash and ridiculous range given for a 3NT bid by South, why doesn't GIB define things this SIMPLE, NORMAL, EASY, STRAIGHTFORWARD way: Over North's 2C, 2NT by South shows 11-14. With 15-17, South would have opened 1NT and with 20 (or 21) he would have opened 2NT, so - BINGO - THREE NT over North's 2C shows 18-19. But that SIMPLE solution is obviously WAY too difficult for GIB, so we're left with their nonsensically wide, unworkable range of "13-20", which gives North NO useful information.

The closest thing to a descriptive bid by South in the reprehensible GIBBO system is (gaah!) 2S, defined by GIB as "New suit" (because of course GIB, which doesn't tell us USEFUL stuff, feels it MUST (pointlessly!) inform us that 2S is a "new suit"! After this typically pathetic beginning, the GIB definition of 2S continues "3+ diamonds; 4+ spades; 21- HCP; 16-22 total points; forcing to 3NT". As woeful as this definition is (and it is REALLY woeful, as ONLY a GIB definition can be), it is at least an accurate (if largely uninformative!) description of South's hand, so he bids 2S as the least of evils in their miserable system.

North now makes one of his favourite (and typically I.D.I.O.T.I.C.) bids by leaping FOUR levels, all the way to 6NT. This is defined by GIB as "19-21 HCP; biddable clubs". Yes, thank you, GIB: I would HOPE the clubs are biddable, since at his previous call, North...BID THEM!

South's elementary school, perhaps unlike GIB's, actually...taught arithmetic (!), so South puts that skill to use.
"Hmm," he says, "I, South, have 19 HCP myself, and my GIBBO 'partner' has just PROMISED me 19-21. If he has 21, we will have a combined partnership total of ALL 40 POINTS IN THE DECK. Even if he has the MINIMUM he PROMISED - 19 - we will have a combined total of 38 HCP. so quite OBVIOUSLY I should raise his 6NT call to 7NT."

Thus, South bids 7NT. West and North pass, and East - who will be on lead - doubles. South IMMEDIATELY thinks "That piece of GIBBO trash in the North has done it AGAIN!" South is CONFIDENT that the doubled grand will IMMEDIATELY go down because East WILL cash an ace that it is mathematically IMPOSSIBLE for him to hold on this auction.

South, of course, is correct. East cashes his diamond ace and declarer then claims down one. The INCREDIBLY stupid GIBBO M.O.R.O.N. in the North has "PROMISED" 19-21 HCP despite holding ONLY (!!!) FIFTEEN - six fewer than his potential maximum, and much more importantly - a full FOUR (!!!) fewer than his "promised" MINIMUM!

No bridge player is perfect. Even the best make mistakes. But there are mistakes, and then there are MISTAKES! THIS insane GIBBO 6NT call is not just some random, run of the mill error - it is a CONSCIOUS decision to GROSSLY distort his values to his "partner" after wasting FOUR levels of bidding with his ridiculous jump. This is the KING of mistakes. AND...

not only does it obviously cause a bad result on THIS board, but it TOTALLY destroys ALL partnership trust and confidence forever. Consider: What happens if tomorrow, for example, South picks up ANOTHER hand with 19 HCP and the uninterrupted NS auction goes exactly as this one did for the first four calls: 1D by South, 2C by North, 2S by South, 6NT by North? What should South now do? He should do exactly what South did here: He should raise to 7NT, because that was and is the CORRECT bid, based on basic, simple elementary school arithmetic. But maybe South will say, "Oh no, that fleabrained GIBBO imbecile in the North is probably doing what he so stupidly did yesterday - PRETENDING to have 19-21 HCP when he actually has only 15, total jackass that he is." And maybe South will then PASS 6NT...and maybe THIS time North will actually HAVE the 19-21 points he's promising. The point is that South will NEVER know whether or not to trust the braindead GIBBO lummox, because the lummox has PROVEN that he CANNOT be trusted and that his bids are just random noise.

GIB/GIBBO is by FAR the worst "bridge player" I have EVER encountered. It is not "just" bad. It is astoundingly, breathtakingly bad, and it is a pox on bridge.

Further proof of how hopeless the GIBBO system is:

Over North's 3H, 3S by South would NOT be a cuebid. It would be "5+ clubs; 4+ diamonds; 3+ spades;..." plus some typically vague, wide-ranging nonsense about HCP and total points. Similarly (and similarly stupidly), 4C would NOT be a cuebid. It would be "4+ hearts; twice rebiddable clubs;..." plus (again) some typically vague, wide-ranging, USELESS nonsense about HCP and total points. There should be a way to CUEBID!

HANDCUFFED by the outstandingly hopeless, inefficient GIBBO system, South bids Blackwood - quite obviously inferior to cuebidding, but in GIBBO's sick, twisted Bizarro World, South can't cuebid!

Maybe South should, as another Forum poster suggested, "stop playing with GIBBO, because no one is forcing him to log on and play with a robot." But South LIKES playing the robot games DESPITE the wretchedness of GIBBO, so he will continue playing them...like many, many other players who also have contempt for GIBBO but will continue playing because they enjoy the games anyway. However, there have been - and will continue to be - a certain number of BBO members who will say "enough is enough" and abandon BBO even though they would have stayed had the robots been better.

A prime rule of business is "Keep the customer satisfied".

Typically unprepared sequence by North, resulting in a THREE-level REVERSE (with insufficient values) that could conceivably force South with some holdings to go to the FOUR level for NO reason other than North's pitiful bidding choices. And no, I'm not complaining about the RESULT. I never, ever complain about the RESULT - I only complain about the GIBBO robots, the GIBBO system, and the GIB definitions...all in the HOPE of persuading the powers that be to either HUGELY improve them...or JUNK them and replace them with DECENT ones. That would please many, MANY BBO members, players, and paying customers...and it would benefit BBO itself most of all, as better robots would make it a better site and would result in more current members staying loyal AND more new members joining.

NS scored 100 % on this board.

Hopeless 2C system, stupid jump to 6NT by the pathetic GIBBO robot in the North. We stumble into a shared top. Too tired and too disgusted to go into all the gory details.

The newest contribution from OMARHEUM, who writes "I scored 93 % on this board when East-West typically decided to double me and defend for no good reason and with a DISMAL result...for THEM."

True, OMAR. If they wanted to compete, they would have been wiser to contract for 3S, especially since even they should be aware of how miserable they are at "defence". They should watch "Magnum Force" and take note of Clint Eastwood's line (as Harry Callahan) "A man's got to know his limitations".

But look at the bright side, OMAR. At least, via their GIB definitions, they were able to alert the world to the following three Earth-shattering pieces of vital information that probably NO ONE would EVER have been able to otherwise figure out by themselves, namely that:

1C is a "Minor-suit opening". Wow! I mean, like WOW, man, how does GIB know that? I'm SO impressed that I'm remembering John Sebastian's actions at Woodstock in 1969! Like, WOW, man! And...

1D is a "One-level overcall". TRULY informative! And SO crucial to our understanding of the bid! Thank you, thank you, THANK you, GIB, for telling us! A ONE-level overcall, you say! Truly inspirational!

1H is a "Free bid". Please, please slow down, GIB! This REALLY important and REALLY hitherto unknown information is SO very difficult for us mere humans to understand and process! How were you EVER able to figure out these SUPER complex concepts ...and then REMEMBER them, to boot? Truly, TRULY impressive, GIB! Well DONE!

Golly! The GENIUS that it took to realize even ONE of those three things! I'm sure that no mere human would ever have been aware of ANY of them without your valuable statements in those TRULY - dare I say it - beautiful and breathtaking definitions!

We bid 6S, which was cold, but we made an overtrick, which was not. Obviously we got a good score (73.15 %)...LARGELY because of the VERY POOR LEAD by the GIBBO robot sitting East, who FAILED to lead his ace of diamonds. The dimwitted fool, who should never be allowed anywhere near a bridge table, made a characteristically beloved AND characteristically stupid trump lead. If the poor slob had had the WIT to cash his ace, we would have scored only a mere 35.19 % for making 6S without the overtrick.

But to be fair to the GIBBO ignoramus in the East, two of his fellow GIBBO M.O.R.O.N.S. were even more (!) stupid on the hand. For the details, please read the two posts (2192 and 2193) immediately following this one. The total ignorance of these pathetic GIBBO clowns knows NO boundaries. They are the worst ever!

Same hand as in post # 2191 immediately above, but from a different table.

At this table, North-South gravely erred by bidding SEVEN spades despite missing a cashable ace of diamonds. However, they were wise enough to have this bidding mistake against two of the worst "bridge players" of all time. Yes, of COURSE I'm talking about hideous, repulsive, nauseating GIBBO robots.

Here, against a GRAND SLAM, the absolutely stunning M.O.R.O.N. in the East also FAILED to lead his diamond ace and made the same MONUMENTALLY stupid lead of a trump. Against a GRAND (!), of course, this lead was even MORE stupid than the one Donald J. Dumbo had made against me in my "mere" small slam.

And, to boot, based on the auction in this "impossible" grand, ANY real BRIDGE PLAYER would have KNOWN that his ace was cashing.

There are not enough derogatory words in the entire English language to even begin to describe how sickeningly bad the contemptible GIBBO robots are at bridge.

And finally, this is the same hand described in posts 2191 and 2192 immediately above, but from yet another table.

Here too, the NS pair gravely erred by bidding a grand despite missing the cashable ace of diamonds. At this table, the auction was even further off the mark, because not only did they bid an "impossible" grand (missing an ace), but they bid it in CLUBS (!)...a lower-scoring strain than spades, but more importantly a SEVEN-card fit (!) rather than the NINE-card fit they had in spades!

Not to worry, though, because like the pair in post 2192, they were wise enough (?) and LUCKY enough to have their bidding disaster against two INCOMPARABLY stupid GIBBO robots so of COURSE the addlepated dweeb in the East ALSO - like his M.O.R.O.N.I.C. counterparts, led a trump! THIS time, of course, a "trump" was a club rather than a spade. Note that HERE the MANIACAL trump lead was perhaps even MORE costly than the braindead ones from posts 2191 and 2192, because HERE not ONLY did the imbecile fail to take the SETTING TRICK with his opening lead, but he ALSO resolved any possible trump guess that declarer might have, since 7C was only a SEVEN-card fit and declarer was missing SIX clubs to the JACK.

How can ANYONE...EVER defend the bridge "ability" of these utterly hopeless, contemptible GIBBO pieces of trash? Even more interestingly, how on EARTH is it that some people STILL have the laughable audacity to say that these GIBBO bozos are "better than most human players"?

In any sane bidding system, North's sequence would show at least 6 diamonds and 5 hearts. Okay, we have all long known that the GIBBO system is definitely not sane - fair enough. But even in the pathetic joke that passes for the GIBBO system, why the HELL would North be bidding 3H?

The "defence" is the pitiful effort that we always expect from these GIBBO deplorables. Among other things, note that the droke in the East cannot even manage to play the correct heart on either of the first two heart plays.

If West chooses to compete over South's forced 3C bid, surely he should bid 3D rather than 3H. And as for West's 4S (!) call: Why? WHY? WHY??? It actually might have worked out well, because there's an excellent chance that we would have made 3NT, but that doesn't mean that his bid was wise. We scored 64.3 % 0n the board.

Frequent contributor and fellow GIB/GIBBO critic OMARHEUM has sent another hand. He writes "Just Declare - another doubled contract makes for 88 % at 22 tables including mine."

My comments:

The key words here are "Just Declare", which means that this was a MANDATED auction, meaning that GIBBO obviously thinks all bids by all players here are perfect and are recommended by GIBBO.

Actually, many of the calls are reasonable, so the auction is better than I would expect from GIBBO...but that's because I always expect TOTAL rot from GIBBO. But anyway, let's do some mini-bashing:

3C: Why, pray tell, is East bidding 3C on his moth-eaten QJ532 over North's 2C? The GIB definition, vague and pathetic as usual, is "5+ clubs; 21- HCP; 16-22 total points". Consider how useless that is. Yeah, I would HOPE that he has at LEAST five clubs, since he OPENED 1C and is now freely and voluntarily bidding THREE clubs opposite a partner who could conceivably be void in the suit. "21- HCP". Oh yeah, REALLY "useful" (and really LAZY!). Couldn't GIB even bother to put a lower limit on the HCP? "21-" literally means zero to 21...but he OPENED THE BIDDING, so you know what, GIB? I really don't think he has ZERO! In fact, GIB, your own definition of his opening 1C bid stated that it showed "11-21 HCP", so why can he NOW have (according to your JOKE of a definition) ZERO to 21? SURELY, considering that ONE club showed 11-21, his FREE and VOLUNTARY THREE (!) club bid MUST also show at LEAST 11-21! And, as always, whatever GIB spouts about "total" points is to be ignored, since GIB has repeatedly shown that it knows NOTHING about "total" points.

East SHOULD have bid 2D (not his imbecilic 3C) over North's 2C. It would have saved an entire level of bidding, but much more importantly it would have FAR better represented his hand! As a reverse (a legitimate one, for once, since the GIBBO halfwits frequently reverse when they shouldn't), it would have shown five or more clubs, four or more diamonds, and a hand worth 16-17 points or more...which is what he (barely) HAD.

4H: Although the contract is not unreasonable, it's curious that South's MANDATED bidding was so inconsistent. He PASSED over East's 3C, which could conceivably have ended the auction, yet he later raised North's 3H to 4H...even though the GIB definitions of North's 2C and 3H calls both showed exactly the same values! BOTH definitions showed "3+ hearts; 11- HCP; 10-12 total points", so where is the LOGIC in South passing earlier but raising to four now? Answer: As usual with these disgusting numbskulls, there is NO logic and NO consistency. BTW, 4H is defined as showing EXACTLY "11 HCP". Why on EARTH would the call show that EXACT amount? AND...notice that South does NOT have that exact amount - he has only 10.

West's final double: It says, stupidly as always, "2+ clubs'. WHY? It continues "four spades". Fair enough. It concludes "8+ HCP; 8- total points". First, WHY does he require at least 8 HCP? He could have a perfectly good double with fewer HCP, if he had an appropriate hand ( a heart stack, for example).GIB also reveals, for the Nth time, its complete ignorance of "total" points, since "total" points CANNOT be less than HCP, but the fatuous statement that the "total" points are zero to eight (!) totally contradicts this fact. And on top of everything else, West does NOT have the "8+ HCP" the definition promises. He has a MERE...FIVE...not even CLOSE to the MINIMUM he is "promising"! Finally, and most significantly, the LAME, PATHETIC, typically useless piece of trash GIB definition does not specify what the double IS! Is it penalty? Takeout? "Cards" ? DSI? Co-operative? What the HELL is it INTENDED to be? As is so often the case, the laughably bad GIB definition fails to explain the KEY issue.

Ultimately, there is nothing particularly amazing about this hand per se, but it was nonetheless good of OMAR to alert all of us to it, because the real nutrition comes when we delve into some of the bids in the MANDATED auction and see how truly awful the GIB definitions AND the GIBBO bidding sadly continue to be.

We scored a shared top of 80.77 % for our minus 140, but as always, the score is not the story.

Why is North jumping to 3D? Does he feel it's essential to do that to show his "great" strength? There are better calls he could make that would also, and more accurately, show his "great" strength - which (in context) isn't even that "great". Also, his diamond suit is, in context, nothing special at ALL: a mere five-bagger, and once you get past the ace and queen, you're left only with the 542! Plus, he's BURYING the more than adequate support he has for clubs...the suit his partner BID in response to his double.

Meanwhile, where is the logic, and where is the consistency in East's bidding? He passes over North's MERE (at that point) balancing double of 1S when he might well bid 2S. If that's his style or philosophy, okay, I won't even say anything...BUT...LATER...AFTER North shows a BIG hand...NOW East is positively THRILLED to chirp in with a call of THREE spades. Taken separately, either might be reasonable, but taken as a DUO, they show how wildly inconsistent and illogical his bidding choices are.

We are "defending" 3NT by East. I, South, make the NORMAL and best lead (a diamond), and we rattle off the first four (diamond) tricks, booking the contract.

At trick five, North, a GIBBO robot, is on lead. He...FAILS to cash the SETTING TRICK, his spade ace! East makes his "impossible" game.

But please tell me AGAIN. o ye noble defenders of and apologists for GIBBO, about how the GIBBO robots are "better than most human players".

A raw beginner would have known to cash the SETTING TRICK at trick five, but the play was MUCH too difficult for...pardon me while I try to control my laughter..."Ginsberg's INTELLIGENT (!!!) Bridgeplayer" (sic!). "Intelligent? Yes, about as "intelligent" as a box of stale crackers swarming with hungry ants.

VERY surprisingly and VERY amusingly, we scored 66.67 % on this DISASTER! How is that POSSIBLE? Well, here's the sick, twisted story:

The board was played 13 times. All 13 times the auction was identical. Seven of those times (once at my table, plus also at six others), events happened as described above, so six other humans were also victimized by the WORLD-CLASS INCOMPETENCE of their hopeless GIBBO "partner".

One time - ONLY one time - was 3NT defeated. It went down one trick (which SHOULD have been a unanimous result) and NS scored 100 %. At THAT table, South (bizarrely) led a spade, so North won his ace and shifted to a diamond, where NS now (belatedly?) took their four diamond tricks to beat the contract one.

The remaining five times, East made...an OVERTRICK (!) in 3NT! South (Lord knows why?) led the 7 of hearts from 74 dub. The 8 was played from dummy, covered by North's 10, and declarer East won his king. He then immediately played his deuce of hearts to dummy's ace, after which he cashed five clubs, ending in his hand. EW had taken the first seven tricks, but had NO communication left because this was now the EW position with 6 cards remaining:

Dummy West had the KQJ65 of spades and the stiff 6 of diamonds.
Declarer East had the STIFF deuce of spades, the Q9 of hearts, and the J102 of diamonds.

Declarer led his stiff spade to dummy's king, won by North's ace. North, a GIBBO robot (of COURSE). had NOT pitched well (shock of SHOCKS!) on the clubs, and the other five cards he had left were the J54 of HEARTS and the KQ dub of diamonds. After winning his spade ace, he led his 4 of hearts. Declarer inserted his 9 (which, based on the previous play, was GUARANTEED to win...and did). That was his eighth trick. Rather bizarrely (at least for any actual BRIDGE PLAYER and not a GIBBO robot), he now did NOT cash his NINTH trick, the heart queen! Instead he led his diamond jack and South won his now-stiff ace ( having pitched ALL of his other three diamonds).Down to only the 1097 of spades as his final three cards, South tabled the spade 10, and dummy West scored the queen and jack before surrendering trick 13, with the spade 6 losing to South's 9. An astounding TEN tricks to EW!

Do GIBBO robots STINK at bridge? Well...uh...based on THIS hand...DUH...yes, of COURSE they stink!
