Trick three: The GIBBO robot sitting East pops his heart jack from J7 doubleton. Why? Why this second hand high play that used to be so beloved of the disgustingly bad GIB robots, but which has presumably been scrubbed (and rightfully so!) from the GIBBO playbook? How is this play gaining?

Here's how it could be LOSING: If East made the NORMAL play of the 7, declarer could conceivably play West for jack fourth. If so, he would win his heart king and then lead his remaining heart to dummy's TEN...and would LOSE to East's carefully preserved now-stiff jack. Granted, it's not LIKELY that South would do that, but it IS possible. Declarers sometimes misguess and sometimes misplay, but if a braindead GIBBO robot (sorry for the redundancy!) removes ANY guesswork, declarers will go wrong FAR less often.

And East's play wasn't a case of taking a gamble that might work well or might work poorly - it could NEVER gain, but sometimes it could LOSE.

The GIBBO robots should start a company that charges stupid people money to make them feel good about themselves. Here's an ad they could use:

'Hi there. Are you a very stupid person? If so, you might have low self esteem. You might be lacking in confidence. Nasty people might be making fun of you. Well, you poor dumbo, we can help you. We can solve your problems and give you confidence. We are GIBBO robots, and we guarantee that we are stupider than you. For a mere $120 an hour, you can hire us as companions. You will soon discover that you are INFINITELY more intelligent than we are, and your self confidence will soar! Contact us at Imbeciles Are Us.com.

I have no problem with North's 2S bid, but as is so often the case, his hand does not match his own poorly-written GIB definition, which is "Simple raise - 5+ hearts; 4 spades; 11+ HCP; 12-15 total points".

He has only THREE spades. Since he periodically does this, the definition needs to be changed! As it stands, it is inaccurate, untruthful, and dishonest. It should either say "3+ spades" or "usually 4 spades, but CAN sometimes be only 3, and CAN sometimes be more than 4".

And PLEASE get rid of that unnecessary, useless, annoying, and insulting "Simple raise" TARNISHING the definition right at the beginning!

Silly pop of the ace of spades, removing declarer's guess. A typically foolish GIBBO robot play that can sometimes cost, can never gain, and will at best break even.

Just popping in quickly to mention that the GIBBO robots are undoubtedly the absolutely worst bridge players I have ever seen in my life...EXCEPT for the GIB robots who preceded them. Yes, it is VERY hard to imagine that ANY bridge player in the history of the universe could be worse than the execrable GIBBO robots, but the GIB robots were. That is QUITE an "achievement".

I think most people, maybe all people, feel that declarer play is the facet of bridge that the GIBBO robots are best at.

Even I feel that it's the best part of their game. How could it not be? After all, their bidding is absolutely horrendous, their leads are a pathetic joke, and their defence is disgustingly, sickeningly bad.

So, yes, declarer play IS...and by FAR...the thing that the GIBBO robots are "best" at...yet HERE is an example of just how "good" these bozos are at declaring.

Hearts are trump. Declarer East has Q9742. His dummy West has A10865. The three North-South hearts split 2-1.

The GIBBO robot declares so "well" that he manages to lose TWO (!!!) heart tricks!

The GIBBO robots are absolutely HOPELESS at bridge. They ROT!

South opens 1NT, bids two HEARTS in response to Stayman, and ends up declaring 3NT.

The GIBBO robot in the West is on lead with 842, J, J8753, 9854, so he leads...of COURSE ...his stiff jack of hearts.

He gets a poor score on the board and wonders why. He says, "I don't understand. That lead always works well on...BIZARRO WORLD".

NS score 78.6 % on the board for beating West two tricks in 3D. But in spite of that random result on the random layout of this random hand in the always random game of bridge, it seems quite strange that the GIBBO robot in the North passes West's leap to 3D (rather than doubling or bidding), despite the fact that he has a good hand (considering that his partner has shown 20-21 HCP) with 7 HCP including two kings and a six-card club suit.

"A heart? Why would I ever lead a HEART?" asks the GIBBO robot sitting West.

In post 687 (just two above this one), we saw a GIBBO robot who passed an enemy 3D with 7 good HCP and a partner who had shown 20-21 HCP. Regardless of result, I think we can say that his call was quite timid.

So, are the GIBBO robots consistent in their bidding style and philosophy? Are they always timid?

Ha, ha, ha: No, they are not. They are usually OVERbidders. There are only two things they are consistent in. One thing is being truly pathetic bridge players, and the second thing they are CONSISTENT in is...BEING INCONSISTENT.

Here, the GIBBO robot in the West has a truly miserable hand: J75, J106, 854, 7432 - a pancake flat 3-3-3-4 and a total of TWO HCP, both in JACKS. Yet HERE he feels that he MUST balance with 2H in passout seat. Note that he is "sacrificing" against a North-South PARTIAL of 1NT.

His minus 300, obviously more than NS would have scored in their PARTIAL, no matter how many tricks they would have taken, does not score well (surprise, surprise - NOT!), but I don't think that will prevent him from making further "sacrifices" of this type, because the GIBBO robots never learn!

The definition of South's 4S is much better than most GIB definitions, but as usual the statement about "total" points is meaningless garbage pulled out of thin air for no logical or scientific reason. Why should the bid show EXACTLY "19 total points"? We'd be better off having NO mention of "total points" than having the useless trash that the GIB definitions tell us about them.

"Gee, that Benellis58 must be out of his mind! Look what he opened 1NT with! Why would he do that?"

Well, just in case any of you are thinking of saying something like what I wrote in the line above, HERE'S why I did it:

Playing in a game with three GIBBO robots, I know going in that my "partner" will be hopelessly incompetent and that both my opponents will also be hopelessly incompetent. I would never make a bid like that in a "real" game with humans, just as I would never make many bids that I make in robot games if I were instead playing with and against humans. But in the robot games, abnormal bidding can often turn out well (as, for example, it did here), and even if the operation bombs out it can be an interesting and enjoyable "experiment".

This post is not about my bidding or operations, however. It's about the common theme of GIBBO robots being irredeemably hopeless bridge players.

If you follow the play of the hand linked below, you'll see that West made an imbecilic lead and that the East-West "defence" got even worse after that. I ended up making ELEVEN (!) tricks, but a couple of things were especially striking:

One: The EW "defenders" had A10974 of diamonds in the West and KJ63 in the East. I, South, had the stiff 5, and dummy North had Q82. As you can see, it should be CHILD'S PLAY for them to take FIVE diamond tricks. They took...ONE! Just ONE lonely diamond trick (the ace)!

Two: Our combined North-South spade holdings were 1093 (in dummy North) opposite K87 in my South hand. "Defender" West had the spade ace BEHIND my king. How many spade tricks did each side take? Well, East-West took ONE (the ace), and North-Douth took...TWO! I scored my king of soades (which I remind you was in FRONT of West's ace) AND my...SEVEN of spades!

But please, all you people who say that "the GIBBO robots are better than most human players", PLEASE keep saying that: I always enjoy a good laugh!

North feels his hand is not good enough for a free bid of 2H over West's 2C, so he makes a negative double. Fair enough.

But later, with the SAME hand, he LEAPS to FOUR hearts over West's 3C! Not only an imbecilic bid, which we have come to expect from the always M.O.R.O.N.I.C. GIBBO robots, but also an inconsistent one.

The 4H contract is, unsurprisingly, hopeless (just like the robot who bid it) since it has five obvious losers: two natural trump tricks plus three side aces.

It scores 76.09 %, however, as in the same contract, nine other Norths also went down two, eight went down three, four went down four, and one went down five. As is often the case, North doesn't even obey his own GIB definition, which says that 4H shows "10+ HCP", while Mister Consistency (ha, ha!) has only eI
ght.

The only NS pair that did better scored 100 % for passing out the board.

Hey, Mr. GIBBO, maybe it's LONG past the time that you sent your braindead robots to BIDDING SCHOOL!

North doesn't raise diamonds after South bids a forcing 3D over North's 2H opener because he "only" has...FOUR of them. Instead, he bids 3H (showing basically what he ALREADY showed when he opened 2H). But worse still, the GIB definition of his 3H call says that it shows "1-3" diamonds, even though he has FOUR.

South continues with 4C, showing a GOOD hand with...DUH...diamonds and clubs. West GRUDGINGLY reverts to 4D, undoubtedly PRAYING that they won't go down 10 tricks with his HORRIBLE hand for diamonds.

What IS his "horrible hand for diamonds" Oh, just the AK of hearts, just FOUR diamonds, and just a STIFF CLUB. *****!

RED against white, in the PASSOUT seat, with 52, 1043, J1098, 9742, a ONE-COUNT with four DIAMONDS, the GIBBO robot sitting North decides that he MUST bid 2H.

In response to South's TAKEOUT double (as per the GIB definition) of East's 2H, North bids 2NT. Sounds like that SHOULD be natural, with a heart stopper and somewhere around 7 or 8 HCP, based on the auction that has taken place so far. But how does GIB define it? Well, let's see:

"2-6 clubs; 2-6 diamonds; 2-5 hearts; 2-5 spades; 6+ HCP; 6- total points". Even by GIB's "standards", which are the absolute lowest of the low, even by those reprehensible "standards", this piece of trash takes the cake. I don't have the time or inclination to discuss ALL the ways it is a total joke!

What IS North's hand, where he felt that 2NT was a PERFECT description? It was...8, 72, J7542, A8643!!!!!!!!!!!

How is it even possible for EVEN a contemptible GIBBO robot to be SO stupid and to bid SO stunningly badly?

North's 2S is defined as "Simple raise - 5+ hearts; 4+ spades; 11+ HCP; 12-15 total points".

Guess what, GIB? NOBODY needs to be told that this bid is a "simple raise" - NOBODY! So why not remove this piece of garbage and all others like it from your consistently pathetic GIB definitions? And while you're at it, why not either have the hopeless GIBBO robots FOLLOW their own GIB definitions...OR. better yet, change the definitions to make them accurate and honest instead of the INACCURATE and DISHONEST stuff that so many of them spew out? Here, for example, North does NOT have the PROMISED "4+ spades", and this hand is NOT a rarity.

Then in the play, when declarer South, at trick two, leads the heart 7 towards dummy North's VISIBLE and EXPOSED KJ1042, the GIBBO robot sitting West plays his QUEEN of hearts (!) from Q6 doubleton...one of those insane second hand HIGH plays that the even MORE hopeless GIB robots used to LOVE, but which the new and improved GIBBO robots have supposedly been cured of.

What can you say, except that garbage is garbage!

Check out East's inexplicably stupid 2D bid, which - of COURSE - does not match his own GIB definition. The parade of trash appears to be never-ending.

Trick 8: The GIBBO robot sitting West foolishly cashes his heart jack, allowing me to go down only one and score 100 % on the board. Thank you, Mr. West - thank you for being such a miserable "defender".

If he INSISTS on bidding, maybe West should bid three CLUBS instead of three DIAMONDS!

The GIBBO robot sitting East wins his queen of hearts... and then plays his heart king...thereby giving declarer a hand entry, the whole heart suit, and the power to squeeze him (East) in diamonds and clubs, to make TWELVE tricks.
