My partner was dealer and the bidding went:

pass-pass-pass(me)-1 diamond

pass-1heart-pass(me)-1spade

pass-pass-1nt(me)- 2nt

It was matchpoints, when I heard 1 diamond then 1 spade about to be passed out, i closed my eyes and bid 1nt.

I figured opener must be a rule of 20 fan and is trying to steal a few matchpoints.

I was stunned by the players 2nt bid, and was even more stunned that he took ten tricks.

Oh boy, what did i just do?, did i just get a zero?

Later I saw that my result was actually 96.88%.

This was in fact opener`s hand:

his partner had a healthy kq 5th in hearts, 9 hcp, and only 3 tables out 33 did not bid some kind of game.

Surely opener remebered one of the tales which prevent people from opening 1nt:

1) one cannot have a 5 card suit( not even a minor)
2) one cannot have a doubleton, much less 2 doubletons
3) all suits must be stopped

there are many more out there. and they can make a grown man cry.

Babalu just wanted a shoulder to cry on, is that too much to ask for?

I blame responder. What is opener supposed to do if too strong to open 1NT? Jumping to 2NT bypassing spades is not for everyone.

Agree with Nigel. This hand with 3xTs is too good to open 1NT. It serves responder right for passing 1S.

Remarkeably lucky that opener didn't just double you. What did you hold?

First, I corrected your misspelling. Second, she probably has 10-12 HCP, something like:
