Play 3NT I think I misplayed this..learning

Scoring: MP

1♣-(2♣!)-DBL-(2♦!!)
P-(P)-DBL-(P)
3♣-(p)-3NT-All Pass
 
2♣=Majors, 4-4 or better and strength like an overcall
DBL=Not really discussed with new partner. You hoped that it would suggest a penalty DBL in the next round.
2♦=prefer Diamonds
 
1. LHO leads ♠8 which runs to your ♠J,
2. You now play ♦J which holds
3. and a ♦ to ♦A in dummy
4. Small ♠ from dummy taken by RHO with the ♠K. LHO started with 2 card ♠
5. RHO plays ♣7 for your ♣8 and small ♣ by LHO. Suppose you take ♣9 in dummy.
Do you agree with play up to here and how to continue from here?
All players at the table are OK, but no experts.

How did I get from step 2 to step 3? I'm not in dummy after step 2.

I'll play LHO for ♣K and RHO for ♥K. LHO is presumably 2254 or 2155 - I may have to guess which.

I play another spade. RHO will win and play another one, bringing me down to four hearts and two diamonds opposite three hearts and three clubs.

If LHO now has only one heart, I play ♥A, ♦K, diamond to endplay him.

If LHO has two hearts, two diamonds and two clubs left, I duck a heart, win the continuation, and endplay him as above.

If LHO has two hearts, three diamonds and one club left, I try to duck a heart to East.
... that would still not be conclusive proof, before someone wants to explain that to me as well as if I was a 5 year-old. - gwnn

It's a messy hand and I'm not sure what's right but I'd have run the ♣8 at trick 2. While W surely has the ♦ length you can only take 4 ♦ tricks if the ♦Q is with shortness and going after ♦ feels like I'm attacking my own communications.

I'd also want to know more about their system. Does 2♣ deny a hand that would make a normal takeout double? Does it promise (or strongly suggest) 5-4 or better?

Yes, they would DBL with a normal take-out DBL

He could probably still defeat you by throwing clubs.

Cannot West profitably refuse to win the last ♦?

If RHO is 4522 then ♣A, ♠ works. If RHO is 4423 I don't see any hope but ♥KJ109.

How?

To be honest I had in mind your same line -- ♥A then ♦'s. That's tired because LHO can discard clubs on the spades and have enough cashing tricks to beat me.

But after winning the 4th round of ♠ the remaining cards are
