If the question is "What did we do wrong?" the answer is nothing.

If the comment is "Haha, look at how stupid my opponents are!" then I agree.

Looks as if E intended 3 as a contract improvement and W thought it ws forcing.

Should be forcing btw, at least if you play a non-sick preempt style.
The world would be such a happy place, if only everyone played Acol :) --- TramTicket

Well, we probably could reconstruct the opponents hands (we know what cards they hold since we see all of ours).

We have to much for 3 to have been meant as forcing, we have six hearts so East has a singleton and probably six (with five surely he is forced to pass, with seven, he might try 4 over 3.

The odd thing here is the 3 bid. Either opener had (gasp) 4 and 6 (many do not open weak two with four spades) or West has 3 to a feature (responder will not have 5's).

Now the question becomes should south with good double? Could they be better off in 's? Well seeing all four hands, double seems clear and hope partner leads his trump (should he have one.. it is possible they have stumbled into a 4-4 spade fit if we don't see the one in partner's hand).

I think your bidding (rather you are north or south is fine).

I wonder what a DBL of 3 by North is. Takeout or penalty?

Penalty/lead direct I imagine. Opps have bid 2 of the other 3 suits.
The difference between theory and practice is that in theory, there is no difference between theory and practice, but in practice, there is.
