Scoring: IMP

(P)-P-(4♣)-?

Let's say you Double. Partner bids 4♠ and RHO bids 5♣. Now what?

Object!

Why not a simple 4D vul vs NV I got a 4 loser hand.....I would hope partner would play me for a good hand if I bid 4D vul at imps.

Now I have no idea...double I guess.

I would have bid 4♦ over 4♣, although it is an underbid. Double leaves you poorly placed later.

If you bid 4♦ and partner bids 4 of a major, you can play in his major (I would raise as a general slam try). But if you double first you have no clue where to play the hand.

Since I know RHO is gonna bid 5♣, this is easy: 4♦ + dbl.

RHO is going to bid 5♣ over a non-game of 4♦?

I'm sorry but to me 4♦ is completely insane.

Good question!
I like the 6NT punt: it seems as good as anything at this point.

Check out the thread 'Robson/Segal advice' in the General Discussion area for a related discussion about 4♦ vs double.

I confess I would probably have doubled at the table. I suspect 4♦ would have been a better choice.

Easy double the second time. These votes for 4♦ the first time are shocking, the hand is both too strong and too good for any other strain.
Please let me know about any questions or interest or bug reports about GIB.

doh, we bid 4♦ because we know RHO is gonna bid 5♣ no matter what. If I didn't know that, I'd probably bid 5♦ over 4♣.. lol.

That's why I think these 2-in-1 or 2-part problems don't make much sense: we end up making a 1st bid based on info we weren't supposed to have until 2nd round.

I see what you're saying. Perhaps I should rephrase. I doubled at my first bid (agree?). Now what?

I agree.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

4♦? Laughable.

I can see double and diamonds but we are probably getting fixed here.

In a fun game I'll try 6N.

6N now is just silly, you might as well have bid 6N last round.

I would have overcalled 4NT (natural) over 4C.

Frances' suggestion seems best although I suspect that I would overlook that possibility, at the table. IMO
  • Over 4♣; 4N = 10, _X = 7, 5♦ = 4, 4♦ = 3.
  • Over 5♣; _X = 10, 5♦ = 5, 5♠ = 1.

I doubled then doubled again, which was passed out.

How do you defend when you lead the ♦K and dummy comes down:

and partner encourages with the ♦3?

Edit: sorry realized this will lead everyone astray. Let's pretend partner discouraged...

How big is the club x in dummy?

My first thought is three rounds of diamonds (assuming that the second one doesn't get ruffed).

Cash another diamond and watch the spots very carefully. I would think pard has one of the major Q's or the ♥A and I'd like to figure out which one.

K from AK here is a useful agreement by the way.
