Pard's double is for penalties (it doesn't need to be KQJT, though). Pass or pull?

3S, which I should have bid the
round before, maybe going over
2NT, if a direct bid would be forcing,
now partner wont believe me,
that I am inviting to game.
With kind regards

I don't mind if passing is a losing decision here. In a long term it seems right, unless you support with 3 cards only.

I have all this stuff and partner doubled, expecting me to hold a slightly weaker hand? I think my ♦K makes up for any missing ♣ (which in any event may be resting nicely in partner's hand). I am going to tell partner I was setting a trap with my 2♠ underbid
Oh... my answer is.... Pass

I'd expect this hand.
9xxx
Kx
xxx
AQ9x
Pass and expect to beat it 2 tricks.

Would 3C be appropriate with this hand or is 3S clearer and better?

3S is just right imo. 3C is too much and also doesnt promise spades initially.

BUT, do you play it that way in YOUR partnership? I sure don't. Doubles at the 3 level are cooperative, after we have raised. It says: I probably have 3 of their suit, and I am happy if you compete to 3♠ or if you want to defend 3♣ x'd. A typical hand is: Axxx, xx, Qxxx, Axx.
Do we miss out on the bonanza when pard holds a giant stack? Sure. But the frequency of the cooperative double is FAR more common.
I generally don't leave in cooperative doubles with a void, but there's a few appealing things to this hand; my quick tricks and my A♥ across from pard's shortness. If its a short event, I'll pass, but if I'm in a qualifying situation I will certainly pull.
Of course this is a clear 3♠ call, even without the overcall.

Yes, whereagles said it was penalties. This is also how I would play it in my partnership.
I don't see how you could ever "get" them with the hand you posted for a "cooperative" X. They have a fit, and the trumps are breaking 3-2. Will pard ever sit?

♠ KJxx
♥ xx
♦ Jxx
♣ QJ8x
as it happened, dummy had ♠Txxx ♥KQx ♦Qxx ♣Kxx. Declarer lost a club, a heart and 2 diamonds. Draw your own conclusions

Was about to write the same before I read the other posts.
Of course I agree.

Yes but I would be very nervous.
The previous underbid left me in an awkward guessing position, e.g. if we set them much we are likely to have slam on, whereas if we have 4S, there are good chances that we set them only 2 tricks.

Help

RHO you LHO pard
