The following well-known treatment is so simple and sound that I am surprized not more people play it:
1H-3S and 1S-3NT show minimal unspecified splinters (roughly 10-12 HCP). The next three bids show good splinters, with about 13-15 HCP. (1H-3NT is a good spade splinter).
Alternatively you can use one way to show a void, the other way to show a singleton, but I like the above better.
Why not use the same idea over the auctions 2C-2D-2H and 2C-2D-2S. Like many people, I have no use for the 3NT bid in this auction, so why not? I suggest that 2C-2D-2H-3S and 2C-2D-2S-3NT show unspecified splinters without any other controls, while the direct splinters show one or two controls.
A comment by Walddk in the latest BBO poll inspired me to come up with this. He said that the hand Kxx Jxx QJxxxx J is too good to splinter with over 2C-2D-2S. Roland, with this gadget, you can splinter and not feel bad about it.

I play void splinters but we are taking a lot of them off the cc because they never come up. And we play them over the 2C auctions you reference. Nice when you have the hand but that's not very often.
I've never liked the maxi splinter idea because it gobbles up so much bidding space. Seems better to start to start with a lower level forcing raise.

i used to play 1h : 3d and 1s : 3h as 9-11 mini splinter (game force).. the 1h : 3s and 1s : 3nt bids were 12-15 splinters and 1M : 2nt was 16+ (BIG hand)
as far as i remember it worked well, but part of the system was the swiss raises
