Is this really in I/A? One of the first steps to improvement for a novice is to stop doubling on balanced merde.

I haven't quite figured out the system, but I'm guessing seven. That's about the yardstick for anything the equivalent of stabbing yourself in the eye with a compass. Jumping off a tall building probably warrants a four, so that would equate to 1 or 1NT on this hand.

pass. Not tempted with 1/2 of a quick trick, 7 major suit cards, 3 cards in their suit, and only 11 HCP opposite an unpassed partner.

Be fair, look at the plus side. You have 7 honours : more than half your hand are honour cards. Of the non-honours you have more "good ones" than "bad ones" (5 and 6 are neutral). So it's a good hand. Moreover, you have 13 cards! You may not have noticed that the year is '13, and the date of 24/7 (or 7/24) makes 31 when you add them up, and that's the reverse of 13! Maybe you forgot to take all this into account.

This reminds me of some of the poker players in my free poker league (NLHE). They play nearly every hand. On those rare occasions when they fold, I usually ask them if they were dealt two cards.

If double gets 7, 1 gets 8 but I'm betting on 3 (for double) and 4.

There have been other unanimous polls but I can't link to them to protect their unanimity.

What is a "free poker league"? Is it played without money? If so, what reason is there not to play every hand?

The real question is if we keep the same distribution, how much do we have to improve this garbage, aceless, quacky dreck to make it a double?

Because you are trying to win.

There are two tournaments played each night. You start with 10000 chips, and the blinds go up every so often - usually about each 18 minutes or so. When you are out of chips, YOU ARE OUT. The last person standing wins.

Much like bridge, we play for ranking points. The longer you last in the tournament, the more ranking points you get. Also, the bars at which we play usually give out gift certificates to the winners.

Also, by doing well you qualify for regional and national championships. At the national championships, the winners get paid entries into World Series of Poker events.
