If they are of a certain age then they may play some version of Journalist Leads even without any further sophistication. In that method you lead the ten from KJTx(x) but the jack from JT9x(x), one of the main points being that partner knows whether to overtake with the ace.

Maybe a bit off topic, but why is this overbidding? We have 26 hcp in two balanced hands, I don't see what other contract we could want to be in. The mirror distribution is unlucky, but I know of no way to diagnose this.

Because 2 NT by N would show 18-19 hcp. Which makes 3 NT bid something else of your choice. But of course it all depends on what 1 NT respond range is.

I agree. My point was that the final contract 3NT is normal: as south, I will not pass if north bids 2NT 18-19.
