3D My thinking here is if I got an alternative to raising with only 3 then that will often (not100%) be better for auction.

Over 3D still got problem knowing if p has 4 or 5 or 6 spades. Assume 3s is not automatic with 5 poor spades.

Look forward to hearing scientist's bidding 2clubs.

3S is very reasonable choice.

Good problem. I suspect that in the Master Solvers Club you would get substantial number of votes for 2C, 3D, and 3S (with more votes for 3D and 3S than 2C).

I suspect I would bid 3S with most partners and 2C with some of the Canadians I used to play with a lot. I don't like I could bring myself to bid 3D even though that is probably the "book bid". The way I was brought up this pretty much guarantees a stronger suit than AJxxxx. With the 10 of diamonds I would feel a lot better about a 3D rebid.

Maybe you should unask the question and open 1NT :)

im not canadian enough for 2C :) i would just bid 3S probably, 3D seems so misguided.

and I will bid 2D.
I cannot stand 3S on a three-carder and 3D on this suit
seems wrong.
Moreover, being vul at MPs is an incentive to score in
the plus column and avoid -200s.

That said, opponents' silence does make it probable
that pard owns 5-4 in the majors, but if this is the case
he will probably speak again over 2D. If we rebid 3D or 3S
we may well endplay him.

I like the tactical underbid of 2D and might try 2S at the table we may miss some games, but we won't lose the spades.

I would bid 2D or 3D, depending on match situation. Other options all have merit (2C, 3S, opening 1NT), but for some reason I prefer a diamond bid :)

Assuming that Serious 3NT does not apply after 3♠, I will bid 3♠ hoping for 3NT from partner. But I think I would have opened 1NT.

This is why I play following with my natural-partner:

1m - pass - 1M - pass
?

3m = maximum, 6+m, 3 card M support
3NT = maximum, 6+m, 0-2 M

So an easy 3♦ bid ;)
