our side vulnerable
Thanks Fluffy! Well, we are vulnerable, so AQJ to 8 AKJ to 8? There is still a probable heart loser. Does partner have an outside K? Oh look, I am giving up, though we may well make 6 of course. If I moved what would I bid? 5H at this vul should be a slam suggestion I guess and not a further pre empt. Damn, I pass.

Either the hearts come home or pard takes the right hook/ruffing hook. Not my problem as dummy anymore.

2nd Unfavourable isn't the time or place to get frisky so pards has a genuine (or very near!) 8pt hand. I have 3 certains and many chances of an extra, if his trumps are solid (1 loser or better) then 6 rolls home.
I liek 5♥ here to say I have the outsides covered, trumps are my worry bid on if they are good.

But I have no idea how to reach spades or diamonds
I try 4 NT too... I will miss slam opposite KQJTxxxx and an outside card, but so be it.

Say partner bids 5♣ showing one key card, what now? Asking for the queen is not enough. The jack and ten are critical as well.

Partner bids 6♦ over 5♥. Not underwritten, since we could be 5035, for instance, but surely a good shot.

I expect partner to make a very solid preempt in 2nd seat unfavorable. Pard ought to have an 8 trick hand and will often have one with 9.
However, if your style is to always aggressively preempt, you have to pass and accept missing a slam as the price you occasionally pay for doing so.

I really dislike this opening. Not playing some form of Namyats, I would open 1H.

"really dislike" doesn't come close to my view of it. Third seat I can live with, but in second? (Of course, half the folk at my bridge club would open it with whichever of 2C or 2D would show 8 playing tricks....)

I saw the hand, red vs. green, in 2nd, this would even be too light for us,
in the end this comes down, what does a preempt promise at the given colors,
in the given position.
With kind regards

Phil, having shown 1 Key card, would responder's return to 5♥ show interest in 6 if partner has extras? Partner knows I am not looking for an outside Key, because we don't preempt that way. Seems there is room for an inference that if ♥ are as good as KQJTxxx to bid 6?

I don't know how to express how much I hate this idea.
4NT asks for key cards. It is not a general slam try of any sort. Partner answers the question and we place the contract.
Unless you want to spend eternity in front of an appeals committee.
Now, if your question was whether we want to bid slam knowing that we are off a key card, that is a different question.
Suppose you hold:
AKQ xxx AKQ KQJx
and partner opens 4♥ in second seat vul. You bid 4NT and partner shows 1 key card. You sign off in 5♥ and partner starts to think.....
