Scoring: IMP

Auction starts (1NT) P (2C) ?. 1NT is 11+-14, 2C is the start of all invitational sequences with or without a major. (Opponents are playing 2D as forcing Stayman and 2NT as minors.)

At favourable nothing but 4 makes sense to me.

I will try the old standby: bidding my long suit at the cheapest level.

3S does not seem like an unreasonable bid, but I'd just bid 2S

How about 2D, then rebid 2S/3S/4S cheaply. This tells partner D-help is wanted; spades can stand nearly alone.

No it will tell him that you have a spades, but longer diamonds.

If you bid 2S the auction continues 3H on your left and 4H on your right. Are you done?

cherdanno,

Why am 1 bidding 2D then 2S/3S/4S? Because I like 5D over 4S? Foolish!

I stand by 2D then show spades cheaply shows stand alone spades with D-help needed.

If you have this highly unusual agreement, yes. Otherwise it shows 's (longest) and 's.

2 looks normal.

Thanks all. This was from a friendly match a few nights ago. At my table these were the opponent's cards, and they let us play and make 4H (cold on a spade lead). At the other table this hand bid an immediate 4S and made 4SX. My friends at the other table were complaining vociferously about the 4S bid, and I was having trouble judging lucky vs. good since it worked.

2S, I bid what I have, and there is no need to go crazy.

If given the chance, I would bid 3D, to show both of my suits.

With kind regards
