South holds:

Scoring: MP

Playing fairly vanilla Standard american. 4NT = standard blackwood

action is passed to you, 1 or 1?

If the bidding were to go:

(Pass)-1-(1)-2
(2) -?

Now what is your call?

I have the minority view to open 1 Club with thse hands, but I guess the majority let the major suit rule.

Afer 2 Club I would bid 4 Club, RCKB for me, or forcing with clubs for the rest of the world. If I have just one bid, I would try 6 clubs.
Kind Regards

1 is the normal opening on this hand.

After your 1 opening and a 2 response, with your methods you just bid ordinary Blackwood, playing 5 opposite no Aces, 6 opposite 1 Ace, and 7 opposite 2.
That's impossible. No one can give more than one hundred percent. By definition that is the most anyone can give.

Agree on Blackwood now, obviously.

I guess you are used to being in the minority, but this time you are part of the big majority. :) This is a "open 1, bid hearts, rebid hearts"-hand.

nothing "obvious" about opening your shorter suit when you have reverse strength. 1C, then after pard, on this hand, bids some number of clubs, whatever your style is, bid whatever asks for KC for Clubs.

Thanks everyone. For some reason, out of 11 pairs, I was the only one who got to 6 here.

Most pairs ended up in 4, with a couple 5 thrown in.

Scoring: MP

After my pd bid 2, I just bid blackwood followed by 6

1 is normal with this shape and enough for a reverse.

It will be almost impossible to show 5=6 if you start 1 unless you have some specialized agreement. But it is frequently possible to show 5=6 by later bidding and rebidding your hearts if you open 1.

Tyler it is very easy to reach if you ignore opponent's overcalls, but I bet the 1 opener is gonna have to show his first suit at the 4 level against decent opposition.

I open 1, then if I had opened 1, 4 now which should be minorwood... Otherwise 4NT. If partner shows no aces, 5. 1 ace, 6. 2 aces, 7.

Why?

This seems to be a very limited use convention.

Its fine when you have the values for slam and only need to know about key-cards but it seems to me there are many more hands that are:

1. Have a void and are only invitational to slam so not suitable for exclusion

2. Otherwise Invitational to slam

3. Lacking control somewhere

which are suitable for a natural forcing 4.

Given the shape AND strength for a Reverse, you open 1C on this hand.

At our table (this hand is from the ACBL Instant Matchpoint game, for anyone that hasn't guessed), we didn't get any interference. Even without I think it's almost obvious to blast 6 presuming north has some way of showing a balanced hands with values. It was easier in my case because I know partner has exactly xx of and at least 3 clubs, but it's really hard to construct hands opposite which 6 isn't at least a good shot, if not laydown.

Agree with Fluffy of course. The game is Majors. You need to ask yourself if you are happy to hide a 5 card H suit if 4S gets back around to you. In many 2/1 variants not to open 1M is to deny a 5 card Major.

ok, I thought 1c wtp.....

I grant I do not know many 2/1 systems that deny a 5 card major with one of a minor opening.

As other posters mentioned with reverse hcp.....just open minor....

Don't you Mike? I am sure if you think about it that you do. Steve Robinson's ideas have often been discussed on this forum. Furthermore virtually all Polish Club systems apart from Strefa, are based on a 2/1 gf structure. In every single one I have ever come across opening 1D denies a 5M. (I don't mention 1C for obvious reasons).
