Now this is a pass of a 1 level double. About the first one I have seen in these forums for a couple of years.

2. When the opponents are just about known to be heading for an escape to hearts, I would rather actually bid a suit that I am happy to bid, especially with values. Passing is a mirage, IMO.

So why not tell our partner about our hand type before bidding clubs?

Furthermore - sometimes LHO has 2-3 hearts and 4-5 diamonds and decides running isn't appropriate.

Bidding 2 is premature.

So you would rather show your Qxxx suit, instead of your KQJ98 suit?

My hand is a good hand. I have Qxxx in a suit partner ostensibly has shown. I have a stiff. My diamonds provide a trick source. And, I have 8 HCP.

So, I want to describe my hand.

If I pass, I do show diamonds. But, will I venture into 3 is the auction proceeds:

1-X-P-P-
1-P-2?

If the auction proceeds:

1-X-P-2-
?

I might not even get heart-based competition. If I do...

1-X-P-2-
2-?

Partner is invited into this sequence in a better way, IMO.

you are buying the 1 scape from a player with 4 cards at most too soon Ken.

Even if you get it, partner is likelly doubling it rather than RHO raising. You can bid 2 then if you wish.

Huh?

If partner has four hearts, and Opener has at most four hearts, then Responder has four hearts also. I think the odds of a raise are actually quite high.

I also have too much strength to expect a good chance that partner will double 1. He looks to be average, IMO.

So, I still think passing leaves us with a what-to-do problem over 2.

that hasn't happened yet. And if it does, what to i do about it? The green card is fine. I haven't used many of them yet.
