Kinda weird. May convince you that you were wrong to even think it, but something intuitive in me screams the counter-intuitive 3♣ also.

yes pass covers 85 very nicely! after passing now doubt you will be able to describe your hand perfectly.

Pass, then bid 0♠, then wait for the auction to come back, open 5♥, then bid 8♣... and finish with "and no diamonds".
It works great!

Yes.
Problem is, that when partner opens 1♦, you only have 5 hcp and thus cannot bid 1♥. But what the hell, it looks like a misfit anyway.
Do not underestimate the power of the dark side. Or the ninth trumph.

I am not quite serious about the above but even if Loefken's law says this hand is a 6♣ or 7♣ opening I think it is too much.

If I had a 4♥ opener, that showed a lousy 5-card suit, and 7 or 8 clubs, I would use it.
Unfortunately it is not yet on my repertoire.
(Some might prefer to go all the way, and guarantie 8 clubs, but I believe thay are influenced by seeing the actual hand.)

Pa 1♦ Pa 2♠
Which was strong with spades. At my table I now decided it was safe to bid by jumping:
4♣ 4♠ 5♣ 5♠
Now what? If you pass,
If you bid on,

I mean, I had the option of preempting, but I did not. I now know that I am well behind the field in the preemption department, and nothing I do now will catch up.
So, I might as well hope that the non-preemption pays off. Meaning, maybe the opponents actually do worse with no interference because they bid aggressively, counting on some nice splits that are not happening. Worst thing I could do now is to bid and take that possible gain away also.
Pass like I'm 4-3-3-3 and bored.
