Scoring: XIMP

Parnter opens 1, you bid 2, 5+ GF, partner bids 2.

What is your call? What is your plan?

I'll rebid 3. I don't recall ever hiding heart support here in my life, but it's just so obvious how we could have a slam in clubs based on throwing hearts on partner's spades, but have a slam in hearts going down. If partner bids hearts again I guess I'll crack and raise him (via 4) but even then we could still belong in clubs! Say opposite AKQxx AJxxx xx x (ok I guess that's 7NT, but my point being we would not belong in hearts, and if it comes down to keycard for hearts we will never work out anything.)

I would bid 4C setting trumps. Surprised jdonn thinks even if partner is 55 clubs "might" be right. It will usually be right even opposite 5530 (but not always since we have no CT). I just want to get into a cuebidding auction in order to try to get to 7.

Reaching seven reliably might be quite difficult. You need partner to have one of AKQ, A+AKQ, and AK+AK, but there isn't much space and the spade void complicates things.

Suppose that partner bids 4 and we bid 4. If partner later cue bids in spades, we won't know whether that's the ace or the king. Likewise, looking at KQ or AQ, he may think that we have the missing honour and carry us to a hopeless grand slam.

Alternatively, if we don't cue bid the spade void, partner may now refuse to cooperate, thinking that we don't have first-round spade control between us.

Maybe the best route is
  4-4
  5
if you play that as just a void rather than Exclusion.
... that would still not be conclusive proof, before someone wants to explain that to me as well as if I was a 5 year-old. - gwnn

You're probably right, I honestly didn't think about it any more deeply. Hearts (or notrump) would be better if his hearts were KQJTx though.

5NT if that's GSF at this stage, a mere 3 if it isn't.

stuff

I am planning on bidding 4S after 4H and then partner will bid keycard rather than cuebidding some more. We have shown a diamond control so certainly if he has one of the hands for grand (lots of quick tricks) he can just bid 4N. When I show my void if his hand was KQ of spades he can put on the breaks.

FWIW I do not think KQ of spades is supposed to get super excited, if our hand is solid trumps and diamonds controlled and the SA what are we doing bidding 4S instead of 4N? I could see this only if you think non solid trumps are possible for 4C.

If partner keeps cuebidding with AKQ A or AK AK on this auction instead of bidding 4N then gl to him.
