Scoring: IMP

p - 1 - 3*- X
3 - p - p - ?
* 5-5 clubs and spades
Teams with new p and teammates. Partner opens 1, we are vul vs not.
No agreement on defense vs twosuited. Default agreement of X: I have penalty of (at least) one of their suits

P.S. No shots were fired. Not even one unpleasant word from p :)

3N, this rates to make very frequently. 3 rates to go down too, but I think it will go for 300 most of the time.

Also, I disagree that the first double should be penalty-oriented.

Not sure if this is a good agreement here. If DBL of 3C is passed to your partner how will he know if he has to pass or not - If you have paenalty against 3C or 3S?

What would be wrong with bidding 3NT rather than X for the first bid?

Ugh. I hate 3N. Unless partner turns up with a surprise stopper or the A (both unlikely) we will have to scramble eight tricks in the red suits to get our 600. I would be willing to bet that 4 is a better contract than 3N most of the time, but how can we possibly find that now?

LHO will have three spades very frequently, and we are flat out killing 3 with a trump lead.

DOUBLE !

I don't see what was wrong with X - if it showed 4 hearts - rather than this, IMO rather silly, penalty X of one or other of their suits. You can still bid 3N later if that seems right then.

I don't like looking for 4-4 fits when one of the opponents has shown a 5-5. If double is takeout it should be 5 hearts with tolerance for diamonds. Penalty of clubs would also make a lot of sense.

3x goes for 500, doesn't it? That would be 3 IMPs.

Oops. Yeah. 120 difference would be 3.

How are you getting 3 for 500? You can't draw dummy's trump, and effectively use diamonds as a tap suit.

I think the offense should get 4, 2 and a club in the wash.

For instance, trump lead, lose a club, A, . Lose a club. Win the heart shift in hand, lose a club. Heart won on the board, ruff a heart lose the last club.

Unless I'm missing something.
