Low club.
I don't have much of a reason. A heart is out and a diamond is probably pointless. A spade in possible but pard didn't overcall so I'm not that interested in the suit, plus we could blow a trick.

Top C. (Top from 3 small). Won't lead a D as this is very likely to give declarer a tempo. S is a close second choice, but maybe more likely to blow a trick.

♦ J. Seems most likely not to give away a trick; although it may give declarer a tempo but to me that seems a lesser danger.

Diamond. Yeah, opener might have a long diamond suit. He might also have 3 diamonds, or be 4-4 in the minors.
Seems like I had this hand this weekend, and I led a diamond. Don't know the result, though.

♦J.
If we do guess to lead a black suit, a club must be better than a spade, not for reasons of blowing a trick, but (as mentioned by pclayton) because there are many holdings (AKJ9, etc, etc) that partner won't have in spades (would have overcalled) but could have in clubs.

That's impossible. No one can give more than one hundred percent. By definition that is the most anyone can give.

Probably a club, but diamond would be my (close) 2nd choice.

Ho hum, I thought a spade was obvious.
Diamonds are LHO's long suit.
Clubs could well be RHO's long suit.
Partner didn't overcall in spades, but he hasn't got many high cards, and he might not have 5 of them anyway.
I'm surprised at the suggestions that opener might not have diamonds, at least round here 18-19 balanced typically raises 1H to 3H, not to game (or not unless it's a really juicy hand).
I bet no-one leads a trump.

Well, LHO didn't splinter, so diamonds are still a little suspect. In reality LHO will frequently have 2452 however.

Well, LHO *should* be 5422, I think in reality people have a balanced 18 or 19 a vast majority of the time that they do this.
