Short spades: check.
enough values to bid: check.
I don't understand why this is not a textbook X.

But, I bid it anyway. It always makes. It never should. But, it does.

You might get a spade lead and win your dry King. How clever of you. If pard fits either of these minors and gives you a source of tricks for NT, you probably have 6 of a minor.
If RHO leads an off-suit which he should anyway, you have to work pretty hard for 9 tricks.

Maybe you were playing one of the 99.9% (or just 99%) weak pairs on BBO at the time.

I think that a 3Nt bid with confidence is as good as a X. However i dont usually use the bag of tricks when i have a perfect bid available. Also when i have 2 close decisions that i believe to be equals i tend to follow the field unless im in a very big events.
For instance, he doesn't like being used as a human shield when we're being shot at.
I happen to think it's a very noble way to meet one's maker, especially for a guy like him.
Bottom line is we never let that difference of opinion interfere with anything."

The claim was the "6m" is better than 3NT. 6♣ has problems after spade Ace, spade Queen, a likely defense..
True, that same defense will also beat 3NT, to death. But, it will not happen.
Plus, I doubt that 6♦ is reached after a double.
So, I think the idiot bid actually wins.

Saying that 6m is better or might be better then 3Nt is a bit pointless. I have 21 points in my hand so im not expecting partner to be strong enough to make a slam try or to leap to 5m. So in practical term there is no road that lead to 6m.
