LHO opens 3♣, RHO raises to 5♣. We are favorable. What's your plan?

5♥
My usual action on these hands is to double (not takeout), and then pass if partner bid 5♦. Not my style to bid 5/5 on these hands, but I have seen that approach work too.
At this vulnerability only, though, 5♥ seems a happy compromise between believing my vulnerable opponents, and perhaps making a contract.

5♥ is wrong most of the time when we cannot make eleven tricks.
Double will make it very hard to get to 5♥ when that is right.
I think this is very close between two bad alternatives or maybe even a third - PASS.
Double is most flexible so I do that and panic later if partner bids 5♦ but that should be based on a long suit.

This is of course another advantage of bidding at these colours.

For instance, he doesn't like being used as a human shield when we're being shot at.
I happen to think it's a very noble way to meet one's maker, especially for a guy like him.
Bottom line is we never let that difference of opinion interfere with anything."

If you double, you will play it, at least
most of the time.
With kind regards

However, on the actual deal 5♥ might be the winner. I'll still go with the odds.

One table was
3♣-p-5♣-5♥
p-p-x-end
The other was
p-p-1NT-2♥
3♣(90% signoff)-p-p-X
p-4♥-x-end
+690 for the good guys
