What would your bidding sequence be (you sitting in all 4 seats)? Assume everyone plays 5cM strong NT, so E opens 1♦.

pass 3♦ pass 3♥
pass 3NT
and a merry 1 down
2NT = 17-19
3♦ = transfer (system on)
3NT = optimistic, but must bid at imps

2♠ P P x
P 3♥ all pass
making 9 or 10 depending on whether South has the 98 of hearts or not.
Just goes to show it's wrong to respond...

P-3♦-P-3♥
P-3NT-AP
If the defenders choose to attack spades and clear the suit, they will rectify the count for a (marked) squeeze to allow declarer to make 3NT.

2♠ 3♦ P 4♥
1NT natural about 16-19, 3♦ inv+ with hearts which is a stretch but I think I would. Of course north won't go back to notrump now, so I think I get to 4♥. It looks like it's probably down.

Either what Josh said, or if responder passes then
(1d)-p-(p)-X
(p)-1h-(p)-1N
all pass
I don't see why the strong hand should bid 2N over 1d (which is 20-22 in my mind). Even if it was 19-21 I might downgrade it because A-J-nothing is not worth 5 HCP.

However -- one observation. In a hand diagram, an "x" usually means a worthless pip. However, the diagram is "impossible" from that standpoint. If, for example, South has the heart 9, or West the heart 9 and South the heart 8, then Declarer has another option in 3NT of simply trying the smother of the 10, as well as options at 4♥ for that matter.
So, I'm curious as to what is actually going on in the heart tertiaries.

what if I deliberately didn't include the heart pips to make everyone bid honestly?
(or I just didn't think about it at all... but surely that's impossible

doesn't 3nt make on a red suit squeeze if they lead and cash their spades first?
