Do you agree with South's bidding?

Do you make another call?

What is the call you make?

This really depends..on your open bid style.
If you promise 14+ hcp...ok
IF you promise junk......well......ok....

Hi,

reformatting the auction

1♦ 1♠,
2♣ 2♥*,
3♦ 3N,
?

I agree with the auction, if you would play IMPs,
I would say 4D is clear, but since it is MP,
I would most likely pass, but I would not be
very happy with my decision.

With kind regards
Marlowe

If you are going to bid 4♦ now you show a weak hand with huge distribution. Rather you should bid 4♦ the round before, showing a hand close to a 3♣ rebid, and 6 - 4.

On second thought, why not bid 2NT first showing your stopper. Maybe partner does NOT bid 3NT now.

I must admit I have no agreements about these sequences.
Is there a danger partner will take 4♦ last round to show a solid ♦ suit?

The original auction seems reasonable to me.
I like 4NT now. Then partner will have a pretty good idea about your hand, except for the spade void.
That's impossible. No one can give more than one hundred percent. By definition that is the most anyone can give.

I like passing here but otherwise agree with 655321.

I really dislike the 3D bid and feel that 2NT showing the H stopper is far superior; the D suit is not THAT good by the way. Anyway, I would pass now - my S void opposite pd's S suit does not augur well for a higher denominational contract.

2NT? no way.

Either bid 3♥ or 3♦, but never 2NT, the hand is slammish and we need to show our distribution if we wanna find a fit to play in.

I agree with South's bidding so far. If you bid 2NT over 2H partner s going to picture a 1=3=5=4 shape; if you bid 3H he's going to picture a ?=?=6=4 shape. I know which I prefer.

I don't agree that 4D over 2H would have shown any strong 6-4. After 2H, the obvious way to play the different sequences is:
4D               Good hand, good diamonds
3D-3NT-4D  Good hand, less good diamonds (but see below)
3D-3NT-5D  Weak hand that didn't want to play 3NT

After the given auction, over 3NT I'd pass. With a weak 6=4 I'd have bid 1D-1S-2D, so partner already expects me to have a reasonable hand.

If I were to move, I'd bid 4H, which seems blindingly obvious with this shape and such good hearts.

PS If anyone thinks they saw an earlier post from me expressing a different opinion, they must have imagined it.

Clear pass imo.

according to the rules of the game I have to make another call. I do not, however, make a bid. I pass.
P is, quite possibly, already relying on our club stopper, maybe they have a card there, who knows. p has heard us. we he are xx64, we probably don't have three spades, or, even, two spades to an honor. p should not have three decent diamonds or 4 clubs; someone above mentioned this is screaming a misfit?

Are you sure that partner does not have 4 clubs? I'm not.

Seems like an easy pass. We don't need any fit at all, partner can certainly be 5413 or even 6313. We have not that much extra and have shown our shape at least as far as the suits where we might have a fit.
Please let me know about any questions or interest or bug reports about GIB.

no, but i'd expect p not to have extras or control cards if they have 4 card club support.

Well perhaps she has 5. Oh, you mean 3?! No way; you have posted this in the Advanced/Expert forum and I wouldn't expect a player of that calibre to bid non-existent suits. :) (I know some posters would, but none of the people I played with would and I certainly would not.)

I'm gonna pass. If I need some "action" I'd try a natural 4NT invite.

Partner took the slow route to 3NT, going via 4th suit. It's clear that he's got some interest here. You can't be sure he's slammish; he could be looking for some other rebid than 3♦ - either 3♣ or 3♠, just to find the best game.

With two empty suits and a void in partners suit I think it's an overbid to raise to 4NT - which is the only bid I can envisage. I'm better than minimum, but I'll pass.
Kind regards,
Harald

Pass.
We could have a slam, but it's not very likely. I'm not close to be bidding on, because we have no tricks and no safety, if we catch a misfit opposite.
