From the original mispost I thought Pd had opened 1N, hence the question.

Do I read the aucion correctly?
P (P) 1C (P)
1N (2C) 2D (3H)
3S (P) 5C (P)
P (5H) P P
?

If so I would need an explanation of 2C. Probably for the Majors with longer H?
A double looks correct here. I am not going to shoot for a problematical slam when partner can only bid 5C over my 3S bid.

6, what else?

Logic....

Yes, I was willing to take +400 in 5
Yes, 5X is worth +500 for us, +800 if I can give partner a ruff

So, why not take the sure plus of 5X? Because on this auction, 6 is virtually laydown if they can't ruff a at trick one. (If LHO doubles 6 I will run to 6 and hope it wasn't a psychic lightner double with 6-5-2-0 distribution, getting a second lightner double).

Why is 6 laydown? Partner didn't bid 3NT over 3 attempt to get in 3NT. PArtner didn't bid 4 on way to 5 over 3, and yet he Made a forcing pass over 5.

It doesn't take a psychic to see what partner has, no A, no A, no A and yet he invites 6 with this pass. First, he has to have a singleton (you denied a stopper), and to be inviting slam missing three aces, he has all the good remaining cards. Surely his hand is on of the following.

, or

If not, take your partner aside and explain the meaning of FORCING PASS to him.

Ben with either of those hands I would bid 4S over the 3S bid - and you would as well!

While it is true I Would bid 4 with either of the earlier hands (assuming and explaination of 2 is for the majors), I wasn't given the north hand to bid (I would have started off with an unusual over unusual response instead of 2, which I myself play as not forcing here... given the opportunitity for uvu).

However, let's weaken north hand by one card, take the K away, now no 4 cue-bid is available. Now I would never think of bidding 4, and guess what, 6 is still a great contract... 6+5+1. Of course why partner would make a forcing pass without the K (after all he not know about my fifth ), I don't know. Maybe he has 2-1-3-7 and is counting on long from me for the 1NT bid.

But no, if my partner makes a forcing pass and I hold this hand, I am obligated to bid 6... at the very least I should at least win the postmortum. If partner has a hand like... xx x KQxx AQxxxx we are going to have to have a long long talk.

Which is why I said in my reply....

Spoiler
"If LHO doubles 6♣ I will run to 6♦ and hope
Spoiler
it wasn't a psychic lightner double with 6-5-2-0 distribution,
Spoiler
getting a second lightner double)."

Be a boyscout and be preparered. :-) I can't imagine sitting in 6 after a ligthner double, especially against a pedestrian pair who would not think of a psychic ligthner double. Five club bidder hand is just about perfect for this auction. It is his partner, who hearing the lightner double should pull to the safer 6 as I suggested.
