Scoring: IMP

(P)-P-(1)-DBL
(1)-??
Is this hand good enough to Bid 2?
Would it be good enough if were a Major (because DBL - certainly with a pick up - is more oriented to the majors), eg :
Scoring: IMP

(P)-P-(1)-DBL
(1)-??

I'd bid my suit on both occasions. A little more reluctantly holding 's, but I'm still bidding.
Kind regards,
Harald

Agree. I'd bid even if 2C vulnerable at imps. The 5th club is determinate.

I also bid my 5 card suit and my dblton Q may have value in a suit PD certainly also holds for his take out dbl. I think I have just enough to bid 2, whereas with a major bidding is clear to me.

I would bid, and not cooperate after that unless forced to.

Huh.

There was a thread about a similar auction, in which I said that I tended to bid at the 2 level with interference with such 'crap' that partner should expect me to have absolutely nothing when I pass.

This was the sort of 'crap' I was alluding to. I bid 2 here, no problem.

I don't know if the rest of the world has caught up to me, or if they were up here all along and I didn't notice.

As I learned it, the standard meaning of a bid at the two level in response to partner's takeout double, after interference, tends to show 6+ hcp, or a fifth card with a little less.

Sorry, you're not avant-garde

I don think it's fair to conclude that p has absolutely nothing when he passes in this situation, I think it requires some 8 points to bid 1NT so he might have 6(7) points with no biddable suit.

Here all our five points are likely to work and we have at least an 8-card fit, quite possible a 9-card fit.
The world would be such a happy place, if only everyone played Acol :) --- TramTicket
