Thanks Ben!
Richard,
Was there any insight on how the G/F is untangled over 1M openings? Any mention of interference handling?
Hi Dwayne
I wasn't involved in the development of the new relay structures over 1
♦ / 1
♥ openings and don't claim to understand them that well. Personally, I'm worried that they are too vulnerable to preemption.
As I understand matters, the relay asker can have one of four basic hand types:
1. A weak NT oriented hand with ~7-10 HCP
2. An invitational NT oriented hand with ~ 11-12 HCP
3. Certain game invitational hands with trump support (I believe that most hands suitable for a fit jump would start with a transfer response and then show support)
4. Any one of a variety of game forces
For example, if you look at board 25
Paul opened a very light 1
♦
Michael relayed with 1
♥
Paul responder 2
♣ showing clubs
Michael broke relay and replied 2
♠
I believe that the 2
♠ is natural, showing Spades but also establishes a game force.
All in all, it wasn't a great showing by Oz One, though the bulk of the losses came from a pair of disastrous boards. The team lost 16 IMPS right off the bat when folks got a bit overactive with 5-5 pattern. They dropped another 12 on board 10 when who knows what happened. (I suspected that the complexity of the methods caused some problems here)
