I'd like to bid 2♠ looking for NT but I'm not clear on agreements and if 2♠ would imply ♣ stop ?

3♥ splinter perhaps.

agree with 3H. 2S should show a suit imo. 3H seems most descriptive and the best start towards bidding our diamond slam.

Oppositing a passed hand slam could be too far away, unless... he has singleton ♣ and ♠A ♦K. So I tend to bid 3♣ as a cuebid to see if pard is encouraged. I will be satisfied with a game, no matter 3NT or 5D.

If pard continue cuebid in black cuit, I'm happy to continue with cuebid, otherwise, 5D to play.

looks like a poster boy for a splinter. Great suit, great controls in the blacks, singleton heart: if pard has no wasted values in hearts, there is a slam coming.

If you play Raptor, as I do, you can bid 2♠ with impunity here. This shows values in spades (and less than four of them), or you can bid 3♥ splinter. 3♣ simply would not be choice as I don't want partner thinking is he asking for a club stopper of some such silly idea.

The problem I see with 3♥ is partner will not have 5♥ on this auction, and if he has 3 or less, we might wake them up should they have a good heart save if they can "hit" 3♥.

However, despite being able to bid 2♠ without confusing partner and despite the possibility of waking them up with a 3♥ splinter, I will bid 3♥. Why? Because it will be the best way for partner to evaluate his hand opposite mine. This informs him right away hearts (other than the ace) are wasted, and helps him evaluate his hand much better than a 2♠ would.

I would bid 2♠, but the more I think of it, the more I like 3♥. It would break our agreements that splinter is only on a suit bid by opponents, but it couln't be anything else.

3♥ splinter. Gives partner an idea when 3NT is right and when to try for slam.
