I do not run many tournaments, but the recent bad weather has caused me to run a few more as the bridge club is closed. I've seen a couple of issues as I've tried to run these events for a restricted set of players.

Firstly I created a tournament just for friends of the host. For any players whose ID I did not know, I planned to make them friends just before game time. Unfortunately this did not work as I expected and, for a long time, I thought it was just not working. So I presumed that a copy of my friends was taken when the tournament was created; subsequent investigation discovered that the list of friends is refreshed when the tournament is 'modified', and not when a friend is added. So I needed to change the description or something to get the refresh.

More disconcerting, although it has the same solution, was using the 'Include custom list' option. When this option is checked, a copy of the list is taken. If you add people to the list they are not permitted to register until the tournament has been 'modified' and list reread. Given that this list is only managed through the tournament creation screen, I think any update to it should generate a refresh (or make the Modify button active). It is easy enough to cause the Modify button to become active by simply unchecking and re-checking the 'Include custom list' option.

Finally, the help system. It would be useful to specify how combining restrictions work in the help document (http://www.bridgebas...tournament.html). I don't know if this has changed, but the Windows program help said "Effectively, for a member to be eligible to participate in your event, he must be in each and every Include list you have specified and not in any Exclude list." but this is no longer true. I am running tournaments for friends and a custom include list, and you only need to be in one of those lists to participate.
