Scoring: MP

2♠ - 3♥
3♠ - All pass

I opened this hand with a weak 2 spades. I felt it was a minimum hand for the vulnerability. (Note we play that weak 2's are 6 cards in 1st and 2nd). Partner's 3♥ was natural and forcing. I didn't believe it improved my hand any so retreated to 3♠ which partner passed. Would you want to be in game on these hands and if so which game? (4♠ by south or 3NT by north?) If you do want to be in game, who should have taken the push? Our range for 2♠ is roughly 5-9 hcp.

Happy to play in 3♠.
The hands don't go together well at all and the bidding says it all.

Maybe the responder could use 2NT (Ogust or feature ask) and back out when he hears about a minimum hand.

Going into 3NT with one club stopper and no likely entries to spades is too risky unless the opener shows some extras. Give yourself heart jack instead of diamond jack and this thread does not exist ;)

It's MP's, no reason to bid games. However I disagree with the 3♥ bid: the suit is rubish, and usually opener shouldn't have a 3 card ♥ anyway. 3♦ is much better imo.

I guess, but at mp I would just guess to pass 2s Major, just a guess.

Looks to me like making even 9 tricks might be a problem.

4 is a real stretch. I don't want to be there at any form of scoring.

There's still a bonus for bidding and making games, even at MP.

To answer your question, you did well to stay out of it. Game is quite poor.

I like the 3♠ contract, if I have to be in game it has to be 4♠
