Well, just because you're at 'red' it doesn't mean you can't take a save. It sure doesn't seem you can go more than 500 down (even if pard has a 6-4 major), and you can easily go for less. Though I agree the risk of a bad score is much higher at matchpoints.

What? Try playing 5♦ with partner having ♦Qx ♣x in the minors on a trump lead or switch and one of the 2 minors breaking 4-1. Even worse, you were beating 4♥. (♠A led, spade ruff, ♣A, club ruff or trump promotion)...

Bidding is really a crap shoot. Sure, you might catch pard with a 4 card minor, but that doesnt mean you have 11 tricks. If its a total misfit - where pard has some kind of 6-4 in the majors, then this hand is a nightmare, and we can go for 1400.

Just pass and see what happens. You have an easy lead against 4♥ - and you will be on lead too.

Pass. I expect at least two down in 5m. 4♣ would be a fitbid, btw.

Nightmares can obviously happen. The question is how likely they are. I don't think it is that bad a shot to try for a save in 5m.
