no

4D shows both majors.

One could play, I suppose, that it shows this hand if you correct hearts to spades, but this is susceptible to really serious problems if your LHO bids 5D or even 6D over your 4D call, since partner may have long hearts and short spades, and think that his hand meshes well with yours. That's improbable on this hand and auction to date, but you do NOT make bidding agreements based on your own hand.

With this hand, bid 4S. Is that perfect? No. Partner, with x Axxx xxx KQxxx will pass 4S when 6C is cold, but bidding, especially over preempts, is an inexact art/science. In golf terms, aim to hit the middle of the fairway and the middle of the green, rather than making perfect shots.

Some people play non-leaping Michaels, in which 4C over 3D would show clubs and a major. But I don't and would bid 4S like mikeh

MikeH's 4 is the practical bid. The meaning of 4 depends on agreements. Many players treat the cue-bid as showing the majors.

On the previous occasion that Maris Oren asked this question, I suggested this variation of Michaels

After (3m) ie over a pre-empt in either minor:
  • 4 = ART. M and om. Then advancer's 4M is to play; but 4 asks "which M?"
  • 4 = ART MM.
  • 4M = NAT.

After (3M):
  • 4 = NAT and OM.
  • 4 = NAT and OM.
  • 4M = CUE. mm.
  • 4OM = NAT.

Useful glossary of WBF approved abbreviations: ART = Artificial. NAT = Natural. CUE = cue-bid (here, bid of opponent's suit). M = major. m = minor. OM = Other major. om = other minor. MM = majors. mm = minors.

Given the subject line, perhaps the best way of remembering this is OM NOM NOM.

I suspect that the last time Maris oren asked this I mentioned Hamman's convention. But for some reason I like OM NOM NOM more this time than last: either nige1 improved it or I'm just looking forward to Sunday lunch.
