Is it possible to adjust # tricks taken on a completed board? Per this morning's TD at our club,

Today's #41345 NH Open Unit 150 Statewide had an unusual difficulty matchpointing Board 18

Board 18 ended as AVG for John Maxwell and Jules Lemire though every bid and card had been played.

They had defended all thirteen tricks in 3S and took 5 tricks.
All 52 cards had been played and BBO had summarized "8 tricks taken", however, the result used for matchpointing showed AVERAGE.

Because the hand was "completed" the only adjustments allowed are not trick-specific ... We were unable to assign 8 tricks taken in this contract of 3S, to equitably mirror what clearly had happened at the actual table.

I suspect the round ended just as they were playing the last card, so it was treated as a late board and Avg assigned.

If North was declarer and the defenders took 5 tricks, you adjust the result to 3SN-1.

Doesn't the BBO system determine the number of tricks when there are only a few tricks (or a few cards on the last trick) when the clock expires?

The only times I have had to override the BBO system are two times with four tricks to go, a defender had to discard a specific card to prevent declarer from taking the rest (discarding any of the other three cards in his hand would have been fatal), but the BBO system gave declarer the rest of the tricks. I had to go adjust the score. Remember this if you get a director call for the late board and then watch it disappear because the BBO system determined the number of tricks.

This only happens in payed tourneys like virtual club tournaments. In free tourneys there is no automatic score correction.
