Please could the experts help with a system for coping with weak 2 bids after a 1c (16+) opener

So 1c (2H) should responder pass with less than 7 points or is there a system where responder can compete with a stopper in the suit or without a stopper in their suit

Hi,

not playing a strong club system, but

#0 opener is expected to reopen with shortage
#1 neg. X should promise pos. values, ..., I would guess it should setup a gf seq.
which means 8+ HCP, a common req. for neg. X on the 2 level anyway
#2 2NT Lebensohl style, maybe slow showes / fast denies

With kind regards
Marlowe

IMO a simple clear treatment is ...

  • Pass= NAT 0-4 HCP OR stacked in opps suit.
  • Double = NEG 5-7 HCP .*
  • Cue = ART UCB 8+ HCP No 5 card suit
  • Suit = NAT 8+ HCP 5+ cards.*
  • 2NT = BAL 8+ HCP with stop.
  • Jumps = NAT 8+ HCP (Semi)solid suit.*

* Perhaps transfers would be better.

After two level interference, Rubensohl type methods are quite popular

Sir,
Yes .This is the scheme we play too.In addition,
1) if opponents ((LHO) of opener makes a conventional bid of DOUBLE for majors then we bid ((a)1H to show 5/7 points and a 5+ Club suit and (2)1S to show 5/7 HCP and a 5+Diamond suit.

2)If LHO bids 1NT to show minors then we bid (a) 2C to show 5/7 HCP and 5+ Heart suit and (b)2D to show 5/7 HCP and 5+ Spade suit.
3) This scheme is applied to Two suiter overcalls also.
