One could switch off private chat, except to opponents, the same as during tourneys....
I realize that playing in the main bridge club is more casual, but a flood of private conversations gets to be very distracting even if they are just greetings and responses...one can of course choose to ignore them, and not reply... anti-social behavior
BBO is a social site and we make a lot of friends but at times i am overwhelmed with the conversations that continue during play in main bridge club, and i find myself making more mistakes than during turneys... (not a good excuse)...
One can of course choose to have an invisible table for a serious game, but then friends cannot come and kibb..... chat on table is not as distracting, because it is not as personal (you hope)...
This might not be something one might want to do very often, but it is IMO a good option...... I find it's good to have a choice
