The watercooler would be a different place without you. Nevertheless, unselfishly I hope you also find better things to do in 2019 than spending it here :)

Nice touch having most of the planet celebrate your birthday at midnight. :D

Thank you!

A guy I knew in 1960 would beat his knuckles against his chest and say "I have eighty years". I won't be doing that, but 80 is some sort of landmark. We are having some people over, the age range is 7 to 88 (and perhaps 90 but she thinks it might all be too much).

That we are all bridge players gives some cohesion to the Water Cooler. I do waver between posting and then asking myself why. WC postings inevitably run up against the fact that people are a great deal more than the sum of their opinions.

I went to college in the late 1950s so of course I sat in coffee shops discussing Sartre and Camus. After a bit I decided I had no idea of what I was talking about, and then I decided it was very possible that Sartre and Camus didn't know what they were talking about either. Now if I were to look to the French for advice, I might go with Edith Piaf: "Aujourd'hui ça commence avec toi" See https://www.youtube....h?v=rzy2wZSg5ZM if you have never heard this terrific number.

But today we have a party.

Thanks again,
Ken

PS I just saw the ggwhiz post. From a kid's point of view, the biggest feature of a birthday on New Year's Day is that it is very difficult to get your parents up in the morning to give you your presents.

More so when you're 80!

Happy Birthday! :D
