So I was kind of annoyed that my opponent's decision to blast 3nt and ignore spades caused GIB to commit seppuku. Good god what caused this?

You are very lucky. My opponent's GIB would probably bid 4NT as a 2 suited takeout or jump to 5♦.

The 3NT bid by human is so clumsy that what happens afterwards is somewhat academic, especially with robots.
It's only luck that hearts are stopped and there might well be a black suit slam for all he knows.

Human's action being swingy is totally irrelevant to the fact that the definition for 4d and the bot's choice to use it are crazy and ought to be fixed. Even if human had responded 3nt on something total random and psycho like 7213 5 count doesn't mean West is supposed to come in with 4d out of nowhere. Imagine you can't see N/S hands. Do we want GIB to be even considering 4d in this spot?

This forum is about GIB bugs. Even if human bid totally out of line, it doesn't matter when computer bid is totally insane on the sequence and should be fixed. If it is getting it wrong here it is also getting it wrong when the 3nt response is normal.

Will have them look. I think a similar issue was fixed on the 3 level already.
Please let me know about any questions or interest or bug reports about GIB.

While the auction wasn't similar. I had an opponent bid 4♦ over 3NT on 3451 distribution vul going for 1100.
They have over 5,000 mp each.
After hand they complained partner didn't pull to their heart fit as i obviously had ♦ for my double.

If they actually had 6♦ they would hold to 500 and a top as we were also vul.

Bidding 4♦ vul is just bizarre double if making a crazy bid even with 15 pts which not even close.
Sarcasm is a state of mind
