Even on a 4-4, dummy will be tapped with the spade leads, blowing the communication to the club suit.
So preempt in clubs to liking. 4 feels right to me.

If I have to choose then I think it depends on my pd. 5♣ is ok in "default" situations.

I guess you get trouble when both you and your partner have an 8 card suit
I don't see how pass can help our side, it is pretty clear we have a ♣ pre-emp, what did you want to acomplish by passing?

4♣ v 5♣ is a difficult decision.
Are we sure that we don't want LHO to stretch to 4♠? Partner may have a good penalty double and maybe we have an unexpected good lead (♥K).

to bid it anyway, if they bid 4S.
At any other vulnerability 4C.
With kind regards

EW 4S has a little challenge due to diamond suit splits.
N-S 5C sacrifice would get average score.
however N-S 5H is cold, especially receiving club lead. only 1 of 8 table reached 5h.

Reverse the North and West hands and you see the peril of bidding the hand slow (passing???). The auction starts 1S - pass - 2D - pass (don't tell me you'd overcall 2H on This)-4C splinter - pass - 4S - all pass. So the passers get to defend 4S when they are gin for 6C.

Honestly I would never worry about missing such slam.

But you should worry about the double game swing you gave up defending 4♠ when your partners doubled 5♣ at their table making with an overtrick.
I'm having a fun time with the play in 4♠. Heart, heart and stiff diamond continuation. We are cold if we guess to hook, but it looks natural to rise with the A and play a spade.
So, spade to Ace getting the bad news. It looks like declarer needs to play a high diamond out of his hand which needs to be ducked. Club to board, spade hook (splitting) and put North in with a diamond. Best play is a heart, which you ruff low in your hand and overruff on the board (!). ♣K, pitching a diamond and two good diamonds, but you haven't shortened yourself enough, so you are -1.
With the exception of the diamond hook, can anyone do better?

In standard however, 5♣ seems the right bid.
