Whackojacko is up by 4 after our first 16 boards

http://webutil.bridg...1055&u=hrothgar

The biggest swing of the session occured on a hand where I made a conservative pass and Wacko choose to invite, racking up a nice +10 IMPs

I do not think it is reasonable to have a policy that a contestant must play when he has no further interest in the event.

And comparing the size of the differential is meaningless anyway since the boards are not the same.

Yep, sorry for the lack of foresight here. I hadn't wanted to impose a strict deadline for reasons similar to what diana_eva and Phil mentioned above, but had assumed players would be able to at least make contact via the forum if they'd be temporarily unavailable rather than disappear entirely. Things don't work out like that in real life! For the second round let's make it a strict 1 week time limit - though it's likely to be a lot quicker regardless. If you know you might be away from BBO long enough to miss a 3 day challenge window, let your opponent know. If a challenge expires, the onus is on the person who did not accept to complete two matches within the week - or they will forfeit. If you can't manage to fit in two challenges in a week, this probably isn't something you should have entered. Will allow olegru + gordontd another day to complete their match - otherwise, for the purposes of getting the second round up and running quickly, I'll give the benefit of the doubt to olegru due to the large margin in the first round.ovnclymz - will just keep the draw as mentioned originally rather than change things now - that's a possibility for later events, but the difference is pretty minor.

I create another thread to discuss the format of future events, from now on let's keep this place only for results reporting and hands discussion.

If someone does only play half, it seems reasonable to just double the first half margin. It's not like the victory margin playing completely different hands is all that meaningful anyway.

Yes but unfortunately differential is the criteria (this is the rule for this event) for pairings in the next round.

Guys, why don't you just bbo chat with your opponent (or leave him a message instead of writing here!?) and take care of these problems? If somebody knows wackojack, maybe he/she can contact via phone/email/facebook or something and make him play. Otherwise, it will not be nice - he should have canceled the challenge.

If it is still yellow, why don't you cancel and resend?

Starting from quarter finals, I strongly suggest everyone to leave his/her opponent his/her email address via BBO messaging as the first thing. With this, players will be able to contact each other a lot easier - also I suggest everyone to communicate his/her opponent via BBO, not here:)

One final note, it is always a great idea to cancel and send challenge again if the challenge you sent is still yellow.

I did chat with Wackojacko.

I said that I was happy to play challenges anytime between Friday and Monday.
This one showed up on Friday morning, so I played it...

I can understand that a challenge should lapse by default if not accepted within (say) 3 days (or some arbitrary alternative). But it also seems reasonable that the limit be extended when a challenge is accepted, and possibly extended again when one player has completed the set. There may also be a case for the players to have some control over it. Perhaps something for the developers to consider.
Psych (pron. saik): A gross and deliberate misstatement of honour strength and/or suit length. Expressly permitted under Law 73E but forbidden contrary to that law by Acol club tourneys.

Psyche (pron. sahy-kee): The human soul, spirit or mind (derived, personification thereof, beloved of Eros, Greek myth).
Masterminding (pron. mPosted ImagesPosted ImagetPosted Imager-mPosted ImagendPosted Imageing) tr. v. - Any bid made by bridge player with which partner disagrees.

Did you cancel the challenge? Btw, manudude03 maybe didn't even know that the tourney continues for him..

Manudude03 & wackojack -- This whole thing becomes messy, if someone is not able to play 16 BBO boards in 3 days or 32 BBO boards in a week (each set takes possibly less than 45 minutes) or does not know how to use challenge tool, then really shouldn't enter this tournament.

Doh, have not been on the forums for a while - just noticed that the challange match had been going on for a while and sadly as my opp as well had not noticed I did not see any challange notifications on bbo - doh
Anyhow good luck to all the players still alive.

I am willing to take the responsibility (possibly with frank0) at least for for a few of the future events, but I think that we should really have a better way to communicate than bbo forums. Maybe registration and game info sharing are made through email - when people know each other's email etc., I feel that things will be a lot more organized.
