Just out of curiosity really - does anyone know of a playable two-way pass system? By which I mean, a pass in first seat shows either 0-7HCP or 17+ HCP (or something vaguely similar).

Gerben42 Plays a version of 2 way pass. I gave it a try, but I was too lost to say wether it was playable or not. It was fun though
btw, Thanks again Gerben

"Enterprising" Tales has a description of the "Vulcan Variable Pass"
As I called, one of the Swedish Carrotti variants also featured a variable pass

Hi, a detailed description of my 2-way pass system can be found at:
Tuebingen Pass Description
I have found it very playable. If you would like to try it out please let me know.
Bestguru: There have been some changes since you might have seen it.
For those who just want a short description:
Pass = 0 - 8 or 16+
With 8 - 15 HCP, just bid like in a standard 5-card major system (1♣ can be 2 cards if balanced).
Responses to pass:
1♣ = Balanced 9 - 14 or any 16+
1♦ = 0 - 8 any or up to 15 HCP with diamonds
1M = 8 - 15, 4+card unbal.
1NT = 15 - 17 balanced
2m = 8 - 15, 6+card

I studied the matter for some time and realized it created a few unwanted side effects, such as 3rd in hand openings of type "short or long". But the side effect was more created because I wanted to keep 2C and 2D as weak twos.
Then I dropped the issue, but I think I could now make up a better structure, without the short/long openings. Though I'd probably have to drop the 2m weak openings.

Well you are worse off than a strong club system if you have a strong pass and they bid and responder has to pass, but you gain in many other situations.

There have been a number of English, Polish and New Zealand systems based on this concept. None have proved really playable in good competition as they have been far too susceptible to pre emption, even though some have been played in National and International competition.
Better is to play a full version of strong pass eg WOR, Suspensor or if you want something a little quaint these days, Regres.
