Here is another example of GIB inappropriately using total points to evaluate its hand when no fit has been established.

I refer of course to its 3D bid. Sure, we have a Diamond fit. And that fit is subsequently confirmed with South's 3H bid. But at the point of bidding 3D North is unaware and is angling for 3N. Indeed, when South confirms the Diamond fit with 3H, North (correctly) judges that 5D has fewer chances than 3N. Not that either is great.

The point is that North has no business game forcing on this hand, and should rebid 2N after the transfer to Spades is accepted. The only explanation for North considering its hand worth GF is if it is basing its valuation on total points rather than HCP.

Incidentally, if South were to pull 2N to 3S (on a different hand, obviously), to confirm a Spade fit and minimum values, it may seem undisciplined but I would object less to North coming out of the bushes with a 4S bid based on total points at that point. All would likely hinge on the extent of wastage opposite the singleton.

And here is another example. Slightly skew 1N opener. And perhaps I should have tried for 3N rather than 4H. But North is not to know about any of that when it embarks on a GF sequence.

Once again, 8 HCP, 10 TP, no certainty of a fit, and GIB game forces.

Disregard. I only came to this thread to find out what use of Toilet Paper might be inappropriate.
