New myhands request for comments

I'm related to software development and
when it comes to user interfaces i can be pain in the neck:
1) I can enter a start date with year 2004 and earlier, but if i do it says, it may not be prior to 2005-01-19 9.04.45. So why can i select it?
2)So I enter 2005-01-19 09:05 and get an error, because the intervall should not be longer than a week. Would be nice to read that prior to trying.
3) When i press the reset button, the error messages disapear, but the selected dates are not reset. But maybe this is form preset from my browser. But it is not what i expect when i press reset. It would be nice if the end date wouldbe set to now, at reset.
4) I enter midnight today as an end date, because i don't know what timezone myhands is running. But instead of boards i get an error i should not enter a time later than now. Still don't know what timezone myhands expects.

it allows you to enter any date, I think it could be improved if it automatically defaulted to the furthest date the records are held for (not sure how hard that would be)
or what benifit it would be just seemed a sensible idea to me.

That 2005-01-19 is the oldest record accesible right now via this interface, no point to allow earlier queries.
Reset brings back the last query which didn't result in an error.
All times entered and shown are local to the viewer. Times passed between pages are GMT.

The format is good BUT preferred to be able to pull up the last "X" hands

* The reset option should bring back the current date, not
the last valid date queried; it's not likely that I'll use this
date again in the same session
* The 1-week restriction seems absurd to me
* If I just want to see how well I fared last Saturday, the
new system is not practical at all; I have to enter a lot of
info (starting - closing date / time) with some probability
of error, while with the old system I could just click once.
If I take the results of one week I don't get the totals/averages
for Saturday, or any given day.
All in all, and sorry to say, although visually the new screen is
slightly nicer, I fail to perceive any advantages over the
old interface; no, I very much prefer the old interface.

Reset option: That's an option. The rationale for current behavior is for making repeated queries, to see what was the last valid.
1-week restriction: Queries must be restricted somehow, 1 week (per query!) seems a good choice.
Entering times: That's fair. Will think about it.
Thanks for the comments!
General Q: What do you think the default query should be?

Last seven days. I would like ending date removed and just make it seven days from the start date, end of story.... (if we are limited to seven days). I guess if someone plays a hundred hands a week, this would download 700 hands, but that isn't too much really.
So one week search beginning ---> enter date.

Perfect will be if
1) no HH MM
and
2) no 1 week restriction. Why give ability to choose start/end dates if you limit to 1 week anyway? Seems redundant.

Start date and interval, which could be forward or backward from now (then start date becomes irrelevant).
Default would be backward.
Are you sure the normal people would usually do a 1-week query? Seems a bit much to me. (I think most people will be interested in just last few hands most of the time).
Rain:
That limit is for query, and the limit needs to be there. A query of, say, 3 years won't be allowed. Now, would 15 days or a month (for example) be better?

It seems to be stuck in an endless loop of some kind while trying to open the page. I have no idea whether that makes sense or not.
I believe that the USA currently hold only the World Championship For People Who Still Bid Like Your Auntie Gladys - dburn

True but I know Standard American and what better reason could I have for playing Precision? - Hideous Hog

I must say I really like the result of the query. Nice and smooth layout on the result list.
On the search form I have a couple suggestions.
As I see it there is absolutely no worth in having hour and minutes as a search criteria. First of all I don't know which time I played exactly that board. And I really don't know which time that it's saved in the database. Is it my time, Las Vegas time, Delhi time or Donald Duck time?
I see many of the others have complained about the 1 week limit. If you must have a limit (I really don't see why you need to have it. Without knowing anything about the structure of the database, I dare to say that the sql clause cannot be to complex and time consuming). Anyway if you need a limit I would suggest a month at least.
If you have a month limit, it should be mentioned somewhere on the page before a search is performed.
If you have no data before 05-01-19 then you really shouldn't be able to pick a date before that.
Reset button: If I press that button I am expecting all fields get their initial default value and I think everyone else do the same. If I want to start from scratch in the search page I need to close down the web browser. I guess you are using session object or something similar like that. Better solution is make the reset button work as a reset button.
And now I am getting really annoying here (It's kind of cool acting like my customers do when they are testing my stuff).
Enter the start date is ok, but YYYY-MM-... is really not needed. If it where a textbox where I manually should enter my values then it is ok. But now when there are combo boxes I really can't screw it up. So the date description is not needed.
Gosh, what I am complaining! But honestly I think you are doing a great job, and it is nice that there are people out there who do this kind of things.

Changes:
- No more start and end, but start and interval in either direction.
DEFAULTS: Start now, get last 2 days plus time since previous midnight,
so actually it is 2 full last days plus current day. - Subtotals based on a given interval. DEFAULT: don't get them.
- Intervals are in the range 1 hour - 1 month, at least for now.
- Previous queries are not longer remembered.
Please use it and comment, suggest, complain, report, etc.

quickformform Object
top page on error says Invalid input. Please use this page
There is a lot of problems with some bridgebase.com pages today so that might be the cause of this...

1. There is no point in doing partial results monthly when the max is one month, so you might as well get rid of that option.
2. The "if going backwards start at previous midnight" checkbox is likely to confuse people.
3. I think you should either do away with the time. Just run from last midnight on or previous midnight forward depending on the direction interval. This saves some user input and eliminates the confusion in item 2.
As a side note, I used to build interfaces to have the maximum flexibility and detail because that is how I would have liked to be able to access the data in question. I learned over time that users rarely use these features and are more productive with simpler interfaces even if they are somewhat less powerful. An added upshot was being able to remove corporal punishment from my training sessions

On the current myhands site, I can go and look for a specific contract. Say I want to look up some 6Hx contract. I cah look use search and search for 6H... with the symbols you use to look pretty, using find no longer works. So I have to manually scroll and look. Can you give us some way to look for contracts?
