2H-4H
West lead a diamond to east Q, east catched the A and switched to spade.
I couldnt tell how many diamond east had, just knew he had AKQ of them.
How would you play the hearts ?

I think that the queen of hearts should be quite irrelevant for determining to overcall 1D over 1C, sorry.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

ill leave the brilliancies to the brilliant..i would take a finesse like a simpleton. This is also not called an intra finesse if you lead the jack from your hand (semantics)

If you are considering running the J♥, its a backward finesse, not an intrafinesse.
Knock out the A♣ first. While I might not automatically play LHO for the ♥Q, I probably would if RHO turns up with ♦AKQ, ♣A. With the ♥Q, it probably is a 1N overcall.

The problem is that you don't know whether to play a bw finesse or whether to take a normal hook or play for the drop in H. I would follow Phi's line and if West shows up with the CA just take a normal H hook.

I am pretty unwilling to draw any conclusions from the fact that RHO has ♦AKQ, as that is clearly information volunteered by him. Playing K then A could hardly have confused his partner.

If east is a good player I think he has AQ of diamonds and his pd has underlead the king otherwise there's no good reason to play the Q and then the A.
I wonder why east didn't play a third round of diamonds forcing dummy he is not holding Qxxx of hearts or he would have went with that defense.
I think I'm tempted to take the backwards finesse.

I agree with luis, we don't know where the diamond king is hidding, if EAST is advanced or better. You might ask what is the best way to hid the king when holdign it from AKQ? Win Ace and return the Queen is tricky. What is the best way to look like you hold the king when you don't have it, win the queen (if it wins) then return the Ace.
I agree further that EAST, if holding 4 hearts to queen would have fired back a diamond (it might not help, as you might be able to use clubs as a trump substitute), but if he had one heart, he might return a diamond as well.
However, unlike Luis, I wouldn't consider the backward finessee unless I find both EAST with club ACE and some reason to think EAST was playing honest diamond spots (where is the JACK, where is the TEN, what spot did west lead, and what did he play to the second round). If I haven't seen KING JACK or TEN, this is causes a chance to consider... With JTx(x) west leads the JACK, wiht J98x what? Second best? third best? ...
