MP, best hand South Adv GIB v 30
I don't understand why North bothers to show his Clubs. There is no prospect of any contract other than 3N, and showing Clubs on the way only helps the opening leader.

I don't understand why North bothers to show his Clubs. There is no prospect of any contract other than 3N, and showing Clubs on the way only helps the opening leader.

The sequence shows a mild slam try for ♣, similar to 1N-2♥-2♠-4♠ being a mild slam try for ♠.

Yes.
And at the same time it give partner a choice of correcting game -- 3nt or 5♣,while the opener check majors .

I remain unconvinced - not about the meaning of the bid in principle as a mild slam try in Clubs - just whether North has a suitable hand. It is even 1 HCP short of its own announced minimum.
He would show a shortage if he held one, so we know him to be balanced in context. I just think that he is quite a bit short of slam try, however mild.
I agree that bad borderline judgement calls are a low priority for addressing. Maybe I am off base and it is a good bid. I just did not think it borderline.

Turn your ♥J into the ♣Q, and 6♣ is a fine contract. And you'd still only have 16HCP and 2support, so you might decline. And make ♦T9 the ♦32, to make accepting a little harder.
