How do you add notes to played hands?

I've just discovered (thanks Diana) that you can add notes to a played hand.

Situation: You've just played a hand that you want to add a reminder note to

1. In the right hand frame.. My Results, select Options
2. Export Deal -> Hand Editor
3. Recent Hands
4. Select topmost hand
5. Export Deal (again)
6. Now you can add notes
7. Export Deal (again)
8. Send to Member (yourself)

It's a bit complicated, so I'm not surprised I hadn't discovered it before. But I've noticed that if at step 8 you save the deal instead of sending it then the notes are lost :(

However, at step 6, once you've added notes and try to leave the Hand editor it warns you that your notes will be lost if you exit (back or home), which implies there is some way of saving them.
But how?
