MP, best hand South
I felt that I was bidding straight down the middle GIBberish for a change on this one.
A possible exception is my 3C bid, which may have shown extras, but unfortunately the server declined to attach meanings to my bids on this occasion.
North's double promised a 5th Club, which he did not have, instead preferring to hold a 3rd Diamond that the double denies.
North is also two full HCP short of the values promised for the double.
One card off-shape I can understand, or 1 HCP adrift, but one card offshape AND 2 HCP adrift??
On the strength of expecting a 5th club opposite, I could not resist the tempation to pop in a cheeky 3C bid, and I think it sensible that this should be allowed within the system.
And finally, while I still have a chance to bid over 4H, he butts in with 5C??? What does he think that he and I have already shown up to that point?

I think the "2-D" in the double explanation is nonsense that should be removed.

The requirement that he holds 3 hearts may provide a clue to the programmer's thought process. He should not have 4 hearts given the previous 1N response. So, if the programmer is suggesting that he has maximum heart length in context (ie 3) then it suggests that the X is angling for penalties. In that case it may be helpful that he has a misfit in D. Rather tenuous reasoning, I would be the first to accept.

3-D seems reasonable and sufficient to me. You didn't double 2, so I don't expect you to have a huge diamond stack. I also wonder how the description of your 3 bid would be different from a direct 3 over 2. 3H works, as I agree that this double suggests the possibility of penalty. I'm amused by the description of 5, which may lead us to think that North left some of his cards in the board

I suppose I have to count myself lucky that they didn't double. Scraped 25% because of that, as I recall.
