I felt that I was bidding straight down the middle GIBberish for a change on this one.
A possible exception is my 3C bid, which may have shown extras, but unfortunately the server declined to attach meanings to my bids on this occasion.
North's double promised a 5th Club, which he did not have, instead preferring to hold a 3rd Diamond that the double denies.
North is also two full HCP short of the values promised for the double.
One card off-shape I can understand, or 1 HCP adrift, but one card offshape AND 2 HCP adrift??
On the strength of expecting a 5th club opposite, I could not resist the tempation to pop in a cheeky 3C bid, and I think it sensible that this should be allowed within the system.
And finally, while I still have a chance to bid over 4H, he butts in with 5C??? What does he think that he and I have already shown up to that point?

I think the "2-D" in the double explanation is nonsense that should be removed.

The requirement that he holds 3 hearts may provide a clue to the programmer's thought process. He should not have 4 hearts given the previous 1N response. So, if the programmer is suggesting that he has maximum heart length in context (ie 3) then it suggests that the X is angling for penalties. In that case it may be helpful that he has a misfit in D. Rather tenuous reasoning, I would be the first to accept.

3-D seems reasonable and sufficient to me. You didn't double 2♦, so I don't expect you to have a huge diamond stack. I also wonder how the description of your 3♣ bid would be different from a direct 3♣ over 2♦. 3H works, as I agree that this double suggests the possibility of penalty. I'm amused by the description of 5♣, which may lead us to think that North left some of his cards in the board

I suppose I have to count myself lucky that they didn't double. Scraped 25% because of that, as I recall.
