Teams - what's your call?

Does it make a difference if a) you're in the last 8 boards of a match you were losing by 42 IMPs at the start of the set, and/or b) you're playing 4 or 5 card majors?

2 if I don't need a swing, 3 if I do. I have sympathy for 1, but wouldn't choose it.

I don't see how 1 can possibly be right opposite a passed partner. The only way we have a game is if partner has a very handsome spade fit. If so then he can bid it over 2. Otherwise, let's bid however much we're willing to bid right away.

Red on white and opposite a passed hand, I am content with 2, regardless of state of match or 4/5 card majors.

3S or 4S may well produce a swing but it's not the kind of swing you want...
