5 is not a great spot but it makes on 2-2 trumps.
I think that GIB recommends 4 where I bid 5. Over that, North bids 4 and then respects South's 5.

Perhaps my 5 was a bit uppish, but should not North pass it anyway?

Personally I would pass 4 with the North hand (and count myself unlucky that trumps broke 2-2), but I know that North does not pass because that was the auction at some other tables.

While I agree that North should pass 5, it might be nice to know what GIB thinks 5 shows.

Yes, particularly when I use a tablet, it seems to be random whether the system displays some explanations. Often, but certainly not always, it will display the explanation to the screen on mouse-over, but not alert the bid and record the explanation in the history. It definitely happens more with android than flash. can’t speak for apple.

GIB has no sense of humor and no memory, so if you make a joke of a bid, GIB will nail you. And the next time you make the same bid, GIB will nail you again. I'm guessing that 5 shows something like 25-28 points in GIB standard, so 5 HCP and a couple of points for distribution makes GIB evaluate this as a slam hand. You have to be extremely careful when essentially bidding game on your own because GIB frequently misinterprets the bid as showing 25+ HCP and keeps on bidding.
