Scoring: IMP

North, clearly has an opener, and after EAST doubles... how should the bidding go...

The contracts where all over the place on this hand... 4X by West, to 5X by north. If the bidding goes..

1-DBL-Pass-2, what would you bid as north?

1 I don't open 1S. I open 1C. I can count 4 losers here, so am more than happy to open my longest suit

2. I don't pass as S after 1S X. I bid 2H. If S passes, I bid 3D as W, not 2H.

3. If the bidding has gone that way, I try 4C I reckon, but partner will put me back to spades and so we play in the wrong place. Hence I open 1C.

If I open 1C, a 1NT overcall doesn't seem so bad. So:

1C 1NT 2H 3D
3S X 4C P
P X

could well happen.

If 3D is forcing or not I know not, but I can't see E/W ever buying the contract in 3NT.

1 is clear (at least for me)

I can see:

1.....1N......2.....Dbl
2.....Pass...Pass.....3
Pass.......3N.....all pass

Cold on anything but a spade lead.

Well i totally agree with 1, but when this hand was played early this morning my time (like 1AM EST), I was but a mere kibitizer.... South and I did confer (at the table I was watching the final contract was a not so ideal 5X by north), and we both agreed that 1 should have been opened. The only auction I watched however went as shown......

BTW, knowing north's bidding habits, when I saw this hand dealt, I knew he was going to have a disaster on his hands.

OK having decided to open 1 NOT 1 I would PASS ;)

our system bid with north is 1S... so 1S (x) and now south will probably bid 2H, but might pass... if 2H, what does west do? regardless, north will probably bid 3C, which south will pass...

i expect the opps to be in 3NT or us in 3C x'd after 1S (x) 2H (x or 3D) 3C or pass (x or 3NT)... if west bids 3D over 2H, north will pass

if you open 1 is to rebid later, it only matter the level, given that aprtner is passing is maybe better to jump now, but 3 followed by would describe your holding better.

I am a 3 bidder.

In my system I'm obligated to open 1 (otherwise the 5 card is lost for ever), in natural systems however, it's probably better to open 1. After such bidding, I'll bid 3, and 4,...

Free makes a good case there: if I was playing strong club, I would open 1S not 2C on the North hand

If it were me, it would go something like...

1...dbl..pass..2
3...dbl..pass..3
pass.3NT

1 because I always open 1 with 5 maj. I don't feel like arguing with pards whether 1 is better, lol.

3 whether or not I'm playing good-bad 2NT here. This is a good hand.

Pass 3 doubled because pard could have bid 2 with a 6-5, so 5-6 is more likely. (Ok, it's easier when you know the 4 hands.. lol.)

I don't know how south is supposed to leave 3c x in when you open 1 spade. It could easily be wrong (usually be wrong?) and he won't win the post-mortem. 3 x will then be down a few.

Well, pard can be

5S-5C or 6S-6C: doesn't matter what you choose.
5S-6C : pass 3C X is the correct action.
6S-5C : here you should put opener back into spades.

You can't find out which of those pard has, but passing 3C X seems to be more often the correct action. No guarantees, but it appears to cover more possibilities. Plus, 3C X leaves opps the chance to bid 3 of a red suit, whereas 3S will surely be doubled. Finally, as I already said, pard might have bid 2S with 6S-5C.

I think that nobody can say how the biddinig would go until he holds one of these hands.

I can open 1s, 1c and I can pass.
As east I can double or bid 1nt (over 1s too).
As south it's possible to pass or bid 2h.
West can bid 2h, double 2h, bid 2 or 3 diamonds.
This was the first round of bidding and there are so many ways how the bidding can go...
Sorry, my english is not perfect :(

open 1 club and if it gets passed out (I would be suprised as opps must have some thing to say) then so be it, with out playing forcing club opener it is ok and at least ur p is sticking to your agreements and he/she must have a real crap hand to pass out 1 club
